A historic gold rush river runs through the property and nearby are towns full of history when they were part of the gold rush back in the 1850's. Your cottage is fully self contained with a log fire place, bbq, campfire and hammock. You can choose between river or mountain cottages. Just bring your own food and wine and enjoy the company of friends and family or a romantic getaway. Enjoy long walks in the bush. Try your hand at goldpanning. Horseriding and canoeing are available for an extra charge. Take a daytrip to a neighbouring town. The amount you see us will be up to you. If you would like to drop in for a coffee, we'd love to see you. But if you choose to remain secluded in your little hideaway, you can do that too! We are 80km from Mudgee with vineyards and open door cellars. Mudgee used to be a great Australian sheep town and is now a wine and foodie destination. If you feel like a game of golf, head to Rylestone about 40mins drive away and have lunch or a cold beer in one of the great pubs or restaurants there. Nearby Sofala is a historic mining town where the largest gold nugget ever found on the eastern seaboard is from. You will need to drive here. It's a dirt road for about 12km at the end from the highway to your cabin. 2WD cars are fine. We recommend driving 40km / hour or less and taking it easy. In the country, we stay on the left hand side, especially when approaching a corner or hilltop when you can't see what may be coming from the opposite direction. You will in all probability see kangaroos when you drive in so keep looking out the windows. From Sydney Turon Gates is about a 2.5-3 hour drive from the Sydney CBD. Take the M4 Freeway (through Penrith and Katoomba) or M2/M7 Motorway (exit Richmond Road and turn right) to Lithgow. Drive through/past Lithgow and follow the signs to Mudgee (Castlereagh Highway) until you come to a small village called Capertee (approximately 25 mins from Lithgow). Continue through Capertee for about 1.5 kms and you will see a sign for Turon Gates on the left. Do not use GPS’s to find Turon Gates Rd, please use our written instructions It's 4-6 kms to the mountain cottages (depending which one!) and 12 kms to the river cottages - follow the signs and cattle grids. By special design, there is no mobile or wifi availability at Turon - a true break from city life. See Getting around section. We will need to email you directions to your accommodation.
