It is believed that Old Mother Demdyke and her daughter Elizabeth Device could have lived in the surrounding grounds at Malkin Tower Farm. Professional archaeological excavations have been carried out with the results pending, however if proved true a 400-year-old mystery will have been solved and the site added to the history books forever. A perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, ample walking is available from the door, and walks can be enjoyed along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. You could take an energetic hike up the majestic Pendle Hill, or a gentler stroll down to the local dog friendly pub which serves food and dates back to the early eighteenth century. Other nearby Pendle villages full of colourful history include Roughlee, Newchurch and Barley where the famous Pendle Witches lived, and where you will find Pendle Hill. A 5-minute drive will take you to the Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford, where you can relax in the gardens, visit the museum or have a bite to eat in the café. Wonderful Wycoller Country Park is just 15 minutes away, and is famed for its Bronte connections, where you can also embark along The Bronte Way. Haworth is around 20 minutes away, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park can be reached in half an hour. The Lake District National Park and the wonderful coastal areas of Crosby, Formby, Lytham St Annes and Blackpool can all be reached within an hour. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 2 mile.
