Turmeric Gardens - Duckpond Cottage
Fully self-contained. 15 acres in which to wander. 3 km to Palmwoods shops, hotel, eateries. Centrally located on Sunshine Coast: 15-20 mins to ranges, beach, zoo, theme parks, shopping centres, yet set in a secluded bush hideaway shared with local fauna. If desired, we can stock your cottage with provisions for an English-style breakfast, at a cost of $30 per person (min 2 people) for your 1st day & $25 pp for subsequent days. Breakfasts must be ordered by noon of the preceding day. Just some of the local fauna includes kookaburras, cockatoos, wompoos, cat birds, kingfishers, ducks, kangaroos, lace monitors, goannas & frilled lizards. Bird song and the calls of frogs & cicadas greet your mornings and evenings. Many fruits such as mango, paw-paw, banana, custard apple, jaboticaba, orange, lemon, finger lime & mangosteen grow on-site and are available to guests in season. Guests are free to roam most of the 15 acres, the majority of which is natural, timbered bush. Areas of steep terrain exist, as well as stony or slippery underfoot, so non-slip covered footwear is recommended for exploring. The covered communal area contains a bush kitchen, lounging area in front of the open fire-place and a BBQ. There is also a wood-fired pizza oven, which costs $20 to use. A dam and 3 ponds are quite picturesque but guests with small children please be vigilant about their safety. Your hosts Wayne and Margaret live on the property and will generally be available if guests have a problem or require assistance. We'll gladly assist you to fire up the pizza oven if you feel like cooking your dinner (A fee of $20 applies for a bag of firewood.) or direct you to a number of local eateries. A local establishment is worth a look: Rick's Garage, repurposed as an American 50s diner, with big burgers and a whiskey bar upstairs, especially on a Thursday night or a weekend lunch. During these times, you'll often see a surprising array of classic cars and bikes. Turmeric Gardens is 3.8km from Palmwoods Railway Station and 24km from Sunshine Coast airport. A local bus terminates 1km away, with two daily services, Monday to Friday. Other bus routes service the bus stop near the railway station. The original builders of Turmeric Gardens were very eco-minded: the main house and cottages are constructed from recovered materials; water for the property is all harvested from rainfall; kitchens & bathrooms empty into grey-water systems; and all toilets are composting in nature. These features were recognised with an eco-friendly design award by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and assist in a low impact to the local environment. The bathroom for Piccabean is external to the cottage, a few steps from the patio.
