Stay with us and learn why Chesapeake City was voted the #1 most charming town in Maryland by (Hidden by Airbnb) in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The Fairwinds Cottage was built in the early (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) 's, and was originally called "The Crab House", as the original owners of Schaefer's Canal House restaurant built the guest house behind their main residence where they prepared Schaefer's Crab Cakes. The Schaefer family entrusted only other family members and close friends with the original Schaefer Crab Cake recipe, so they prepared the crab cakes in the cottage to later send them down the street to Schaefer's restaurant to be cooked and served up to eagerly awaiting customers. The cottage has been rented to long-term renters until (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) when Amy and her family purchased the property. After four long months of renovations, we are pleased to offer the property for short-term rentals. The cottage is located on the north side of Chesapeake City, and within walking distance (three houses down and across the street) to Schaefer's Canal House. With a coastal-glam decor and a deep respect for the history of the property, we would love to host couples interested in exploring our small, charming town located on the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, the 14-mile long Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C & D Canal) with its western mouth at Chesapeake City, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. The name of the canal reflects the names of the two water bodies that it connects... the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay. Guests have sole access to the private cottage. The guest cottage is separated from the main residence by a courtyard and the cottage has its own private entrance. There is a small bedroom with a Queen size bed and a living area upstairs. The full sized bathroom and eat-in kitchen are located on the ground floor of the home. We provide coffee and tea to guests staying at Fairwinds Cottage. We want to give our guests privacy, but we are available and live on the property in case there are any urgent questions or concerns. The north side of Chesapeake City is home to the popular Schaffer's Canal House, which is hard to miss from the south side of Chesapeake City. They even have a marina for your boat. The beautiful Ben Cardin/Mike Castle Recreational Trail is just steps from the cottage, and runs 17 miles along the C&D Canal. There is one parking space available in front of the guest cottage with additional parking available on the street. Parking can be a premium during the months of May and September. There really aren't a lot of transportation options in Chesapeake City. While there are occasional Uber and Lyft drivers in the area, you will likely need a car to travel around the area. During the summer months, there is a water taxi that will take you from the dock just steps from the cottage to the dock in front of Pell Gardens on the South Side of the Canal.
