This green custom home was completed in 2019 in Marathon, Texas, the gateway to Big Bend National Park and endless possibilities for exploration. Sit on the screened porch or outdoor decks, or curl up on the living room sofa, and enjoy sunsets and the night sky over the Glass Mountains. Wake refreshed and watch the sun rise over Santiago Peak. You are a part of nature in this home. The layout, design and expansive windows make for a four season delight in the high desert. The home offers ample room and comfort. The bedroom has a queen- sized bed and a large closet, and a nook provides extra space to read or curl up for a nap on the daybed. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. A pantry/laundry room provides ample space for a washer/dryer and extra provisions. Meal preparation is easy in a full kitchen with refrigerator, oven, induction stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Eat at the kitchen counter, at the breakfast table, or outside on the screened porch. From the living room or on one of two decks, enjoy spectacular views of Marathon and the surrounding mountains. Relax/sleep in the quiet of this well insulated home. If we are on site, we are staying in the airstream RV to the east of the house. The airstream RV next to the deck is not occupied, but can be rented by a guest of the house. We or our attendant can be reached by phone or email at any time. Marathon, Texas, a community of about 450 residents, is one hour north of Big Bend National Park. The house is on the south side of town, bordered by ranch land, and within walking distance to downtown Marathon, the Gage Hotel, Marathon Motel, and the French Grocer. Walk, bike or jog the 5 miles to Pena Park, where you can sit beneath Cottonwood trees, fish or watch the ever-present vermilion fly catchers. Our home is one mile south of I-90. We are two miles west of I-385, the highway to Big Bend National Park, its majestic Chisos Mountains and 150 miles of hiking trails. Explore other areas in this unique West Texas area. Amtrak trains stop in nearby Alpine, Tx. Marfa and Ft. Davis are within an hour's drive from Marathon. Travel less than 100 miles to visit Terlingua, the McDonald Observatory and the Balmorhea spring-fed swimming pool.
