1881 Courthouse, Judge's Chamber
Built in 1881, in historic Church Hill, with modern amenities, the quiet, central Gawler location offers an unique, private, short accommodation option, close to the Barossa Valley. Happy to share the experience of such a wonderful, majestic building at better-than-caravan park-prices. Located to the rear of the Courthouse, guests enter a luxury ensuite, into an expansive bedroom with couch and table. The massive, freestanding bath is divine. Initial breakfast supplies are provided in the room. The Judge's Chamber offers a large, luxury bedroom with sofa and desk, and ensuite with freestanding bath (no kitchen). Gawler is a historical town at the gateway to the Barossa Valley, and the precinct of Church Hill where the Courthouse sits, is heritage listed. Cowan street is a quiet, wide, Jacaranda tree-lined avenue close to shops, restaurants, sporting facilities and sites of interest on the Heritage trail. Located 40 km from Adelaide CBD, the Courthouse is 250 metres from the train station. Built in 1881, it is being meticulously converted to a residence. Gawler has many parklands and wonderful walking trails along its three rivers. It is less than an hours drive to the Clare Valley, 40 minutes to the beach or city and 20 minutes to the Barossa Valley. The Judge's Chamber is private with a locked door between the guest quarters and the main residence. Guests have their own separate access up slate steps to the bathroom, with their own entrance door, separate to the main Courtroom. Street parking is available. I am available via phone and occasionally stay on site in the adjoining residence, but we may not meet unless you request something in particular. My son and I enjoy travel and use Air BnB worldwide. If messaged, I can usually respond within 2 hours. Church Hill is a quiet area yet is centrally located. There are four churches and many other historical buildings in Cowan Street, as well as a horse hitching post! The Police Station is located on one side of the Courthouse and the Anglican Rectory on the other. Gawler Aquatic Centre, tennis courts and Gawler Central train station are a short walk. In late spring the street turns purple with Jacaranda flowers. As the gateway to the north, Gawler has many local historical hotels. Gawler has some bus service, but most points of interest are within walking distance. The Gawler Central station has a regular train service to the city, taking around 1 hr. If you are driving, there is easy access to main arterial roads and highways including the Northern Expressway. The Barossa is a short 20 min drive, Clare Valley 50 min, Riverland region 2 hrs, Yorke Peninsula 2 hrs city 40-50 min, beach 30-40 min. There are some great walking trails around Gawler and bike tracks including one which joins with Tanunda. We have three supermarkets within a 250 metre walk which open until 9pm weekdays and 5pm on weekends, but if you require any supplies upon arrival, please let me know. Initial breakfast supplies are provided with toaster, kettle and microwave. Also, if you have any preferred bedding options I will endeavor to satisfy these given adequate prior notice. There are numerous pillows to choose from, but if you prefer a really soft bed, I can provide a mattress topper too. Early check in or late check out accommodated upon request whenever possible.
