Country Cottage between St Jean de Cole & Brantome
The cottage overlooks 40 hectares (100 acres) of forest & pasture land, set on a hill between St Jean de Cole & Brantome. If you are looking for rolling countryside, private panoramic views and tranquility yet with close proximity to many of the Dordogne's most beautiful villages & attractions, then look no further. The cottage is ideal for couples who love nature but don't want to feel isolated. It's perfect for those seeking tranquility and for lovers of country walks, cycling and riding. STONE COTTAGE with TWO BEDROOMS, BATHROOM and LARGE OPEN PLAN LIVING/DINING/KITCHEN AREA (c 9m x 5m) with direct access to an adjoining 4m x 6m deck with panoramic views over pasture & forest in the distance. Converted in 2009 in a contemporary style, but retaining the character of a traditional Dordogne stone farm cottage, complete with lots of beams and two fireplaces. The furnishings are stylish, yet homely and comfortable. The cottage is fresh and airy, with plenty of natural daylight. There are two bedrooms - a double and a single - a bath/shower room, a separate toilet and a very large, open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. Access to the cottage is via a separate courtyard with lots of space for parking. At the back there is a large south-facing oak terrace with a Weber kettle BBQ. The views of fields and forest are beautiful and we often spot wild animals; deer and very occasionally wild boars, birds of prey, giving the feeling you are staying on a private nature reserve. The kitchen features a central island unit that doubles as a dining area. The kitchen comes fully equipped, with a full-sized oven with a four burner gas hob, a separate combination microwave oven/grill and a full-sized fridge/freezer, plus a dishwasher, washing machine and a separate tumble dryer. The cottage also has a Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, UK and French TV, WiFi (+20Mb/s, so easily fast enough to stream HD video etc), central heating plus a wood burner in the main fireplace. The bathroom has both a walk-in shower and a separate bath. The cottage is separated from the owner’s house by a large barn and has its own courtyard and parking, plus access to another barn with a table tennis table. This is the only cottage rented as a holiday home in our three hundred year-old stone farm complex. We originally bought the place for the tranquil location - our nearest neighbours are over 1 km away - and are very happy to share that with guests. The cottage is close to local rivers much enjoyed in the area by local anglers. Recommended to lovers of tranquility, nature and countryside, including cyclists and horse lovers. We'd be glad to point guests in the direction of local routes and trails. Guest access Guests have their own private cottage, adjoining garden area and enclosed/gated courtyard. Interaction with guests You'll have as much peace and quiet as you choose. But, should you need any help, we'll be available in the other house about 40m away. Getting around We're about an hour's drive from Limoges Airport, about 1 hour 20 mins from Bergerac and two hours from Bordeaux. Also about an hour from Angouleme TGV station. Other things to note We have two large and friendly dogs (plus 20 sheep and three horses). The cottage can also be rented by horse owners visiting with their own horses, as we have ample parking for trailers and paddock space is available for an extra fee. Guests have sole use of the cottage (c 20m x 7m) , adjoining private decked terrace with access to the shrub garden and lawn (c20m x 40m) below. Private courtyard parking for the sole use of our guests is directly behind the cottage. The cottage is approximately 50m from the owners' house. We will leave you in as much peace as you could possibly want but will always be available nearby to help, if required. We are approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Limoges Airport, 1 hour 25 minutes from Bergerac Airport and 1 hour 20 minutes from Angouleme TGV stations. Public transport is limited in this part of the Dordogne so a car is essential! Please note that our property is a little organic farm, set among rolling hills, surrounded by lawns and a large garden. Beyond that, the cottage and garden are surrounded by our own fields, set some 30m away from the cottage, bounded by discreet electric fencing for our horses and sheep, and to keep our two large, very friendly dogs from wandering off into the woods. Hence, we do not recommend the cottage to families and guests with young children to come and stay. We feel that the setting, animals, fencing and general location are not suitable for unsupervised young children. Thank you.
