Charming historic home with American antiques, wood-burning fireplace, peace, tranquility, biking, skiing, fly-fishing. 3 BRs, 2 full baths, fully-equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, living rm, dining rm, library. Great views (Catskill Mountains in winter). IGA & Bread Alone mns away. WiFi/noTV or AC. Lovely backyard with basic barbecue. Toddlers not recommended. All guests aged 2 plus are charged as adults, and must be incl. in reservation #. Piano add $75. Recycling vital. No smoking or pets. Enjoy natural beauty in comfort through large windows on all 4 sides of the farmhouse. This spacious historic home is ideal for relaxing and renewing your appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. Antique vernacular American and English furniture and decor fill the space, although these make this house unsuitable for toddlers or small children. Very responsible guests may use the professional-quality piano in the library for a supplement of $75.00 and heightened scrutiny for damage of any kind. Piano otherwise remains locked and covered. Surrounded by majestic trees in the rolling countryside where the Hudson Valley meets the Catskill Mountains, this house is close to civilization, yet feels private and secluded. Restored in 2004, this historic c1840 farmhouse features a master bedroom (full-sized bed, which is a bit smaller than queen size), with medium-firm mattress, a 2nd guest bedroom (non-standard size bed, 4' X 6' only, VERY firm mattress), and a 3rd bedroom (twin bed, soft mattress), plus a fold-away Swedish cot for one, a downstairs convertible sofa for two (full, firm). There are two full bathrooms (upstairs bathroom has a shower/bath, small downstairs bathroom shower only), a large fully-equipped modern kitchen, dining room, living room with recently-restored wood-burning fireplace, and library. Backyard features a basic Weber grill, rustic arbor, teak bench, and Pawley's Island hammock (use with caution). Set on five wooded acres 10 miles south-west of Woodstock, this house has 25 windows, each with lovely views of cooling greenery in summer, spectacular color in fall, and views of a winter wonderland with snow-covered mountains in winter. Without nearby neighbors and surrounded by trees, we've chosen to leave our windows uncurtained. This includes the master bedroom, although the smaller 2 bedrooms have roller blinds. Rooms receive early light in the summer. One minute from Route 28, downtown Boiceville, the IGA supermarket, and walking distance from the popular Bread Alone cafe, this farmhouse is an oasis from urban life --- an opportunity to read, write, or just unwind. The Esopus river is minutes away for breathtaking wading or fly fishing. Beautiful biking trails run along the nearby Ashokan Reservoir. The Belleayre Ski Center for family winter skiing is a 20 mile drive west. Local gourmet dining includes Peekamoose in Big Indian. The brand new Santa Fe restaurant 9 miles east of the house on Route 28 is very popular. The renowned summer Maverick concert series is en-route to nearby Woodstock, which is also home to many popular restaurants and attractions. Phoenicia offers quirky restaurants, antiquing and the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice in early August. Bard College with its year-round concert schedule at the Frank Gehry-designed concert hall is a a 30-minute drive, just across the Hudson. Tanglewood and Saratoga are comfortable day-trips. Guests have the use of the whole house and yard. While we love kids, this property may require constant vigilance to keep breakables out of toddlers' hands. Outlets do not have child protection guards, etc. Owner will not interact with guests during stay other than to perhaps meet at the beginning of rental period or at checkout, but constantly available by phone day or night. The area is a winter wonderland with the Belleayre ski center 20 miles away. Route 28 leads from Kingston in the Hudson Valley to the Catskill Mountains in the west. The famed Bread Alone Café is a short walk away. Boiceville -- with its post office, IGA grocery, liquor store, pharmacy, restaurants, and gas station -- is only one minute away by car. Nestled among towering shade trees in summer, affording beautiful mountain views in winter. Public transit is not ideal to our house, but it is possible. AMTRAK TRAIN. Service from NYC to Rhinecliff, followed by a 40-minute taxi to the house. TRAILWAYS BUS. There are two options by bus: from NYC to Kingston, then transfer to our local bus system (UCAT), which will drop you at Bread Alone, walking distance from the house; OR continue on bus all the way to Woodstock, followed by a 10-mile taxi ride to the house. Although the house has reliable WiFi with Bose computer speakers provided, there is no TV or stereo. While one can easily watch movies streamed on computer, there is no cable service, which encourages a more meditative, peaceful atmosphere.
