Comfortable upstairs bedroom with full size futon bed in an eclectic pueblo style home, shared hallway bath. We are far enough from the city to be peaceful & stargaze, but close enough to San Diego's attractions. Come rest & rejuvenate your soul at your home away from home, Mystic Canyon Inn! Private bedroom in a pueblo style home. Room is furnished with a double futon bed and decorated with a beach theme. It shares a hallway bathroom. There is a ceiling fan, a rocking chair and a bookcase full of books. There is no tv, however we have wifi, so you can bring your devices and stream a movie if you like. Or better yet, read a book! We are located in Harbison Canyon, on the east side of El Cajon near Alpine. Our home is eclectic, country, relaxed and homey. We have chickens that freely roam the property and give us fresh eggs daily that are for sale. Cook the eggs how you like them on our outdoor guest kitchen! Our property has a wild, natural, laid back feeling. If you are looking for a sterile, manicured, pristine hotel environment, respectfully, this may not be the place for you! If you like roosters crowing, coyotes howling, stars shining, unique decor and a positive energy vibe, then you will love our place! Our lovable lab/mastiff Reese and cat Aria also live here and love to greet our guests. On our back patio we have set up an outdoor kitchen for our guests' use and every morning there is coffee, tea, muffins and oatmeal. In the house entryway we have a table set up with Keurig hot beverages and water, available 24 hrs a day. We have multiple listings with Airbnb, so if you need to accommodate more people,or want other options, please check out our other listings: Mystic Canyon Tipi, Mystic Canyon Cowboy Room, Mystic Canyon Gnome Room, Mystic Canyon Casita, Mystic Canyon Pop-up Camper and Spirit Sky Tipi. This room, the Cowboy Room and the Gnome Room are all adjacent to each other and can sleep 6 people all together. Ask about a discount for reserving two or more rooms! We are conveniently located just 35 minutes from downtown San Diego and popular tourist attractions like Comic-Con, world famous beaches and the San Diego Zoo. 35 minutes east you will find beautiful Mount Laguna, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Pacific Crest Trail access and the town of Julian. About an hour east brings you to the desert, where natural beauty and recreation abound. 13 miles away, Viejas Casino boasts a beautiful outlet center. 4 miles away, Sycuan has a casino with entertainment and the golf resort of Singing Hills. Come enjoy the slower pace of the San Diego backcountry. We supply you with water, cofee, tea and and muffins to get something in your belly before you take off for an adventure. If you are in the mood for a massage, Barbara is a therapist with amazing healing hands. (Please arrange ahead of time to ensure availability.) If you are a hiker and need a guide, Randy is an experienced PCT hiker, who will be happy to assist with drop-off and pick-up in the local mountains, or whatever your hiking/backpacking needs are. Bikers of all kinds, frequently go by on Harbison Canyon Road, which is part of a larger biking loop. Harbison Canyon, a little hamlet between the towns of El Cajon and Alpine, California was named for John Stewart Harbison who was actually a bee keeper who moved here in 1874. After 7 years he was reported to be the largest honey producer in the world. Harbison Canyon has an old reputation of being a biker haven with Big Oak Ranch and home to a nudist colony called the Swallows! The Ranch has been closed for years, but the Swallows is still there, rebuilt after the 2003 Cedar Fire that burned it to the ground. You can't help craning your neck a little as you drive by, even tho' the new fence is pretty solid! Nowadays there's not much going on here, although bikers of all kinds like to bike through our little scenic byway, stopping only to buy refreshment at the Canyon Store, a short walk from our place. Across the street from the store is Old Ironsides Park which boasts a nearly year-round stream, beautiful oak trees, 3 playgrounds, picnic area and old Kumeyaay Indian relics which can be found near the stream. We enjoy talking to our guests, finding out about where they live and providing information on the local area. We do work during the week, but are usually around on the weekends. Since we are in a rural area, public transportation is sparse. If you enjoy walking or biking, it is possible, though to get here without a car! The San Diego Trolley does come into the El Cajon Transit Center. From there, you can take the 864 bus to Alpine Blvd and Arnold Way, although there is no "bus stop" there, I think the driver could let you off at the stop sign there. If not, there is a stop at Peutz Valley Road. From there it is a 2.6 mile walk to our home, heading south on Peutz Valley Road (which is a dirt road and up a hill for about 1/4 mile), then left on Arnold Way, right on Harbison Canyon Road, which starts out flat, then goes downhill. When you reach the little Canyon Store, we are just around the corner, taking a right on Almyra. It is also possible to bike this route. The trolley and buses do accommodate bikes and as said previously, our place is right on a popular biking route. So, hike, bike or drive yourself to our little haven and say goodbye to the hustle and bustle! Guests have access to the upstairs shared bathroom. Downstairs on the back patio, we serve coffee, tea and muffins in the morning. Our downstairs living room is a comfortable spot to relax, socialize, read a book or play some board games.
