Castle Gate Mill is a restored former mill and factory, with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two kitchen and dining areas and large comfortable living rooms. The property is located in beautiful Cragg Vale just outside Hebden Bridge, on the banks of Elphin Brook, that once powered 11 nearby water mills during Yorkshire's early industrial age. The property's industrial history has been carefully restored with exposed beams, cast iron columns and original factory floors. The entire ground floor is given over to an 800 square foot kitchen, dining and entertaining space, with huge windows looking onto the river, down the valley and up to the "Craggs" that surround this idyllic spot. The first floor has a large living room with comfortable sofas and chairs, a separate quiet workspace, bathroom with walk-in shower and a large master bedroom with superkingsize bed. The second floor houses three further bedrooms, all with king size beds (one with a separate single bed if required) and a large bathroom with full bath. A set of stairs from the ground floor connects the upper floors of Castle Gate Mill to the 'Machine Room', a beautiful space situated over the lower two floors overlooking Elphin Brook. This space was once where the machinery for the 18th century factory and mill were housed but now it is a comfortable, newly restored apartment with its own separate entrance from the outside deck. The Machine Room is open plan and can be connected to the upper floors through a lockable door, or used as a separate property. It has everything you would require for time away including a bathroom, king size bed and kitchen and dining area. Relax on the river deck to the rushing sounds of Elphin Brook, absorb the industrial history of the preserved beams and cast iron columns or simply put your feet up in the cozy living space and get away from it all. Everywhere in the property you will see echoes of the building's industrial past, from reclaimed and restored cast iron radiators, to exposed beams and structural iron work, to the original and timeworn factory floors. The property is accessed through a triple-locking security door right off of Castle Gate, a small lane that leads off of Cragg Road, which has ample on-street parking. The Machine Room can be accessed either through the connecting door from the ground floor or through its private entrance off the footpath. The owners, Polly and Jason, are always available by phone, but our local manager is nearby for anything you need assistance with during your stay. Cragg Vale is a beautiful valley just outside the bustling market town of Hebden Bridge, proudly self-proclaimed as the Alternative Lifestyle Capital of Europe. Two local pubs are right in the neighbourhood, the Robin Hood (virtually across the road) and the Hinchliffe, a short ten minute stroll along the river path from Castle Gate Mill. Miles and miles of footpaths traverse the moors above the valley, including the popular Pennine Way and Calderdale Way (which passes by the front door), leading to local landmarks like Stoodley Pike and Gaddings Dam. On the route of the Tour de Yorkshire, Cragg Road is a popular challenge with cyclists for its famed "Longest Continuous Incline in England." Easily accessible both by road and public transport, Castle Gate Mill is 1.5 miles from Mytholmroyd along the B6138 Cragg Road, 45 minutes from Leeds along the M62, and 50 minutes from Manchester along the M62 from the opposite direction. The property is also accessible by train, via Northern Rail from Manchester Victoria to Mytholmroyd or Northern Rail from Leeds Victoria to Mytholmroyd. Mainline connections to London can be taken from Halifax, Leeds or Manchester. The local 901 bus route to Hebden Bridge or Huddersfield stops right outside the property. There is no parking off road at the property, but plenty on Cragg Road just a few steps away. Mytholmroyd has a fully stocked grocery store and petrol station, with a few cafes, pubs and restaurants, and a mile further is Hebden Bridge, with a huge range of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. For local shopping, Craggie's Farm Shop is a short five minute drive up the Cragg, or a hearty 40 minute hike up the hill. With two unique spaces, the Mill and the Machine Room, this is ideal for large groups and families.
