Inspiring Wooded Cottage in Historic Village
Unplug and escape to Elsah. NO WiFi here; we’re too remote! This historic river town sports a general store, historic museum, and expansive views of the Mississippi River (est 1853). Did we say the best winter/spring eagle watching anywhere! Nestled beneath towering limestone bluffs along the Scenic River Road, just a walk through town can inspire and relax, reminiscing forgotten days. The home is furnished with antiques and art. Every room is light-filled and contains wooded scenes. This spaciously furnished home can serve as an inspiring retreat, while you take in eagles, the bustling river town of Grafton, or historic sites in Downtown Alton or St Louis. It holds three beds (king, queen, and a single), a full kitchen, living and dining areas, a private bath, full laundry, half-finished basement (complete with stereo and an open floor plan to provide a relaxing gathering space); the house can sleep five comfortably and entertain more. A large front yard provides ample room for the short leashed walks for your pet and room enough to toss a ball. A deck off the back bedroom provides a shaded sitting area for morning coffee or afternoon tea. Across the street, an expansive woods provides steep terrain for rugged hiking. A shorter, tamer walk takes you to the village, across five bridges to the river, along a wetlands trail. Pets should not be left unattended in the home. Should you need to depart for a short trip, a mid-sized crate is provided for your use and can be found in the basement. Please bring familiar bedding for pets and prevent them from getting on human beds. A expandable gate is provided to enable pets to be in the basement without you. Our home is not handicapped accessible- There are 3-5 stairs at every entrance. Off street parking is ample. We’re here if you need us, right next door. The front door is furnished with a pushbutton keypad so that you may arrive and leave at your leisure. The full kitchen is well stocked, but if you lack anything, we will gladly accommodate. You will unmistakenly see and hear our chickens. The home is cushioned on three sides by nature. Less than a block away, the village begins and the historic flavor of the place is colorful and welcoming with interesting Architectural sites, Old Time General Store, The WOW Factory (women's clothing), Art and Antique Store, Elsah’s History Museum, Photo Gallery, Christian Science Reading Room, Peace Works:A Market with a Mission, Crocker and Springer Pottery, and Three Rivers Community Farm (Agricultural CoOp). Walking, with bicycling , and boating rentals in nearby Grafton (upriver). In Alton (10 miles down river) there is public transport that can take you all over the metro east area. Alton also maintains a new Amtrak Train Station, with daily trains. Area interests include - Two Rivers National Park, Great River Museum, Lewis and Clark Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Audubon Center, and more.
