Byron Bay Breathing Space - Beachside
Next to the Beach and National Park, we mainly offer beach and bush. This is a unconventional "apartment" - a series of three rooms off two courtyards. It is a leash free dog beach. Dogs stays are negotiable. It is quirky, cosy and NOT LARGE. The second courtyard is totally private and has a bifold door into the studio and another door to the bathroom. The bedbase is low and furnishings simple. The kitchette is for guests off the first courtyard. We may come to use the washing machine only. Welcome to Byron Bay beachside ! We have a reputation for quiet here. And its an unconventional apartment - very quirky - yet with everything you may need during a shortish stay. You will be close to the beach, independent and private during your stay. You may not even meet us! The rooms are described as cute and cosy by reviewing guests. None of the rooms is large !!! The studio bedroom is light and sunny and doubles as a lounge room. You have an easy car park and entrance and can prepare simple meals in the kitchenette. Remember - its not a traditional apartment (not all under one roof). Each each of the three rooms, the studio room, bathroom and kitchenette, have entrances from two outside courtyards. It is ideal for a couple or two friends. Two great cafes are nearby. The beach is a dog leash free area - heaven for a dog and its owners! The kitchenette is for you as gueasts and entry is from the first courtyard, which is share with us - as we may access its washing machine during your stay. The Space The street is a cul-de-sac - so there is no traffic noise. Its a suburb so houses are just nearby - as per photos - and on school holidays and weekends there may be kids playing and shouting in the street and park - which is up the street from us! There is a free tennis court and basket ball ring in the park nearby. The garden is subtropical. The studio has airconditioning. For meals All sorts of cooking appliances are in the cupboards You can order groceries from supermarkets on line or drive 7 minutes or 12 minutes to centres, or walk along the beach to the local cafes and small shops - two of them. One is a bottle shop and post office too and both have groceries, veg and some fruit. We have Internet access with some download and tv/dvd which may be in the cupboard if its not out on the table. no car ? IF you come by plane to Gold Coast airport, search for a shuttle that will take you door to door - this service is available from one or two companies - not all coaches offer this . Your Hosts We both work full time - and Al from home. You can book her for a yoga, meditation or breathwork session. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We are happy to offer reviews and info about cafes and restaurants - but check out the local free paper, the "Echo", which has a long list - and the contact numbers - plus all the local hotel and entertainment gigs Dog owners - you may bring your dog by negotiation. The conditions are you take it wherever you go, as there is no shelter in the courtyard. There is also a tidal river site nearby which the dogs love - or for kayaking? easy access and near the New Brighton store, post office and bottle shop beside the second cafe - good coffee. Even closer, is "the Mrs Birdies" cafe a short walk along the beach or five suburban bushy blocks. It has an atm The cafes have an atm or a post office We have two beach bikes or bring your own for the bush trails next to the beach So the street is usually gorgeous and quiet. However we have a free park, tennis court and basket ball square nearby. There may be lots of activity there at weekends and holiday and yes - we have tennis racquets and balls you can borrow or bring your own! Extras dvds - there is a selection in your room but more in our store ! A barbecue are available by request One boogie board. Its best to have a car to get to the great cafes and restaurants - 70 or more in this shire. Buses into Byron town are once or twice a day only - a taxi is ok if you have plenty of money or in an emergency. Uber is $50-70 to byron town itself - check this out please as it may change. For those attending festivals ? We are quite close to both festival sites ! We are next to the Parklands at Yelgun which is quickly accessible by festival bus - from a stop just a 7 minutes walk - at South Golden Beach. The Parklands entrance is 4.5kms from here by road, about 4 minutes usually. (not festival times?) We are also not far by road from the other festival site at Tyagarah - 15 minutes by car. We are to the north of Tyagarah so there less queue? maybe? You may let yourself in - go in the gate to the left side of the white bifold doorsdoors - and go to your space. Its completely separate to the house and totally private for you in the second courtyard and its rooms. Each small courtyard has a gate. The equipment is for basic meals and making breakfast, lunch etc. There is a convection glass oven which is quick and easy and an electric frypan, and all other basics, a double electric element and a fast induction one too. Also the sandwich press is great for vegetables and simple to use too. I love having guests and giving out information about the area. However I find the guests who choose this space are already independent and looking for a quiet and laid back private time next to the beach. So I mainly see them coming and going in the car space, and they text me if they need something. I work from home so I am mostly available if needed. We have our own entrance and live at the other side of the house, divided by the garage/office. We share a common shut off inner wall to the guest's totally private studio room. There may be some sound that travels through the wall but there has been no problems reported so far - since 2013 ! You can text me if you have any problems - our neighbours are co-operative and we will usually be able to sort anything out on the spot - dont wait to the review time, although so far we get excellent reviews of each time ! We do not guarantee we will be there during the full duration of your stay. However we set the rooms up so you are fully self sufficient. And we can usually respond quickly to texts - as long as technology is working ok - please resend any messages or try the email if you dont hear from us soon after you send a text? In emergency its ok to come into our area through the main gate and knock on our front door - but better to text first - if its not a severe emergency. The beach !! I love that we are so close to the ocean and National Park, and the beach stretches for endless kilometres to the north and south, with only bush beside it. Its a a dog leash free beach and its so deserted that there is no lifeguard patrols - just the occassional dog and owner going for long walks. There are no visible houses or buildings when you are on the beach - only bush and the chirps of native birds. The street is a cul-de-sac so it is quiet as no cars are going past. The area is full of nature and this is a street of nice homes and native gardens. Its the last suburban street next to the National park so there may be kids playing in the street and park up the road on weekends and school holidays. This street in particular is considered one of the most desirable streets in the whole shire and it was a architect concept with similar sorts of beachy type dwellings - all built since 2000. Being a dog loving individual, I love the proximity to one of the few leash-free dog beaches in the Byron shire. Its best to take your dog on a lead through the bush until you reach the sand as if the ranger is around you can get fined for the dog being off lead in the street and the bush track - especially during school holidays? There is also proximity to a yummy cafe called Yum Yum Tree ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it for details) and a Post Office, shop and bottle shop, next to the mangrove creek. Grab a bottle of wine or spirits and a take away from the fridge or basic food supplies as the supermarket is further down to the south - about 5 more minutes by car. Ocean Shores shopping centre ? It has a Coles and other food and fruit shops, a tavern, medical centre, a sushi train, pharmacy, buld food store etc - no more than 8 minutes drive from the rooms you stay in. You can get supplies from this Coles on line delivery - search Coles and get the info update, Another shop and cafe is even closer - called "Mrs Birdys". Its in South Golden Beach just a few blocks away - seven minutes walk - with first class burgers, fish and chips and take away meals and salads from curries to pizza. They also have supplies of excellent fruit, vegetables, maybe fresh bread and other basics too. Five minutes by driving further south is the New Brighton Store - lots more basics and a bottle shop plus the cafe - search for "Yums Yums" to find opening and closing times for this cafe/restaurant which does dinners some nights of the year. Otherwise its suburban beach side living with lots of bush walks but most people use the long long beach for walking. The street park has a tennis court and basketball square and swings for children. We usually have tennis racquets to borrow and boogie boards too, as well as the beach bikes and extra dvds in a wide range, including opera anyone ??? Car or not? Its best to have a car here. But If you want to retreat you can stay here and be self sufficient and walk to the beach and local shop - or use our bikes to get there. You can arrange online order and delivery from the bigger supermarkets - Coles is 7 minutes away by car. Woolies in Mullumbimby also does online delivery. There is a bottle store at the New Brighton store which is a 15 minute walk - or a ten minute bike ride - and on tuesdays a local farmers market. The buses pass by there on the way to Mullumbimby but are infrequent. Check if uber will quote for you in this area. Public transport - a commercial bus company - has a pick up from 5 suburban blocks away - South Golden Beach, and its a half hour to Mullumbimy where you can transfer to Byron Bay bus. These buses will pass Ocean Shores shopping and Brunswick Heads. There is one service only direct to Byron - one hour - But just twice a day? Check Blanches bus service website for the current schedules and routes. The festival buses have pick up points too about 7 minutes walk to the east or the west - or park your car there no problem as its a beachside suburb!. We have some bicycles but they are beach ones and not too flash. Driving here? We are 4 minutes from the Pacific Highway - Park your car on the street preferably in front of your own entrance anad path to your gate (with a horseshoe) to the left of the white bifold doors. taxis? Guests can get a taxi or uber to the airport or Byron town - but its better to get a rental car at Gold Coast airport if you are coming by air. Airport ? Not Ballina airport which is 40 minutes away because the Gold Coast /Coolongatta airport (COOL) is 25 minutes - and it has the most flights and lots of good low cost deals. And it has shuttle services to here and there are more rental car companies - very competitive rates as the airport services a huge tourist market. If you want to retreat here and be car free - book your airport shuttle before you book your flight as not each shuttle company will bring you to the door from each flight! (or get an uber quote which can be a very good idea!) Dont forget the Gold Coast is in Queensland so there is a one hour time difference in summer - they stay on EST - we go summertime. Driving from Brisbane? We are 90 minutes from the CBD - but the Gold Coast highway now gets very congested at peak hours. Driving from Sydney ? At least 10 hours on a good non stop trip - (except for the recommended refresh break each few hours). If you want to break your trip into two days ? I have found the best accommodation is also close at the Coffs harbour area. Driving from Melbourne? At least two days or maybe three days drive??? We do have guests coming for a month or two and that can make it worth bringing the car of course. Some of the local clubs - the Ocean Shores country club and some Clubs in Brunswick offer free pick drop off courtesy buses - if you want to eat and go to the nearby Clubs. OS also has a first class golf course and swimming facility and great meals - become a member for under $10 PLEASE NOTE - Your expectations of an "apartment?". This apartment/flat is made of three simple rooms off two small courtyards. Its not joined up under one roof - so it does not always match how people think of an traditional apartment. The rain may come into the rooms if its windy and a storm - so please close the doors and windows. Also, since we are so close to the national park that creatures may come into the rooms and of course there are wasps too - so its best to keep the doors closed when you go out. We don't lock the kitchenette - but you have a key for your room - for the bifold doors. Of course you are responsible for the safety of your valuables, which are best left in this room - which you then lock when you go out. A portable heater available anytime. We leave a fan or electric heater when necessary. Wifi and cooking appliance information is in the room The dvd is in the back of the television screen so put the dvd in with the silver side facing you - and the label facing away from you. The tv/dvd player may be in the cupboard when you get here but you can easily slide it it on the hook on the left side of the window. If there is an electrical storm its best to unplug everything. SPECIAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE BEACH - You can find it down the track next to the tennis court which is just 8 houses back down the street. The beach is unpatrolled, and we strongly advise you to have fun in the surf but never try to float/swim - keep your hands or feet on the sandy bottom at all times. Since it is such a long beach it has circular movements of the waves and tide and so you can be moved out to sea or north or south. The good news is that if this happens, the tide will also wash you back in further up the beach, so keep floating and let it push you back in IF it took you out!
