Beach Cottage - direct beach access
In the East Neuk of Fife, Lower Largo is the first in a string of quaint fishing villages along this beautiful coast with views of the Firth of Forth toward Edinburgh. A perfect location to visit the historic university town and 'home of golf' St Andrews, just 11 miles away, and with more to see and enjoy in the nearby villages of St Monans, Pittenweem and Anstruther. Located on the Fife Coastal Path, just step through the gate at the end of the garden, on to the beach and explore. This stunning sea front ground floor apartment, formerly two fishermen’s cottages and built around 1687 has direct access to the beach from a large enclosed garden. It has undergone a tasteful 21st century makeover but still retaining plenty of charm and character. Welcoming and cosy atmosphere with log burner, leather sofas and tasteful furnishings, large smart TV with Netflix & Iplayer, plus extra TV in main bedroom, well equipped kitchen, king size and twin bedded rooms, bathroom with bath and separate shower, lovely sunken terrace in the garden for relaxing in the sun, summer house and large grassy garden with steps down to the beach. Outside - useful outside loo, utility shed housing washing machine, dryer and extra fridge/freezer. The sunken terrace is solely for the use of Beach Cottage and the rest of the garden is shared with the upstairs apartment which belongs to the hosts, and the little stone cottage which is also listed on Airbnb as ‘Weaver’s Cottage’. There are separate street and beach access for both properties. The right side of the garden is for the use of Beach Cottage, and the left for upstairs and the Weaver’s, but no hard and fast rules and we're more than happy for children/dogs to roam the entire garden. The little summer house, shared with upstairs, is a nice shelter to sit in and watch the sea and sailing dinghies in windy weather - take some tea and biscuits with you! We are usually around in the upper apartment at weekends, and I will be available by phone/text/email at other times. The beaches, fresh air and coastal path are the main attractions. For the adventurous, try the Chain Walk on the rocks en route to Elie, a 10km walk, have lunch at the 19th hole or Ship Inn and get the bus back! Climb Largo Law for some stunning views. There are several golf courses in the area, the closest being the 9 hole Ladies Course, men and boys allowed too, with Bronze Age standing stones on the 2nd tee, and the 18hole Links course at Lundin Links. Have a drink or two at the Railway Inn in front of the roaring wood fire in the colder months, canine friends welcome. Eat at the Crusoe Hotel, the fish & chips are great. There is no parking but you can drop off luggage/shopping outside the cottage then park in the street where you will usually find a space. At busy times of the year there is a large free car park 2 minutes walk away. The bus stop is a short walk away next to the pub with plenty of buses to get you out and about. There is free park and ride at Kirkcaldy train station, ideal for getting into Edinburgh. Travel cot and high chair available for little ones.
