In the heart of Plockton village our truly unique cottage "An Taigh Dubh" enjoys a central yet peaceful location close to the loch, just a short stroll to pubs, restaurants, shops or seal trips and Plockton’s beautiful scenery. Sleeping two in its open plan living/sleeping accommodation, it has a well equipped kitchen and a shower room, with modern comforts throughout. It is not only unique but just ideal, with the added bonus of its own off street parking, a rare find in Plockton. A unique opportunity to stay in a traditional Scottish thatched cottage in the village of Plockton. Traditional in construction outside but cosy inside and well equipped with modern comforts throughout. The cottage sleeps two in self contained studio style accommodation with an open plan living/dining/sleeping area. It can in addition accommodate a cot for a baby if required. The main bed is a sturdy stowaway double bed with metal action folding frame which converts to a sofa during the day. The cottage also has a fitted galley style kitchen, a shower room and laundry facilities. There is no additional charge for electricity or for use of the washer/dryer in the cottage. For cooking or dining in the cottage is well equipped, with ceramic hob, combination conventional/microwave oven and grill, fridge with ice box, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, slow cooker, pots pans, crockery, cutlery and glasses, and a welcome basket with a few treats! Laundry facilities in the cottage include an automatic washer/dryer, iron, ironing board and an outdoor drying area. The cottage also has a flat screen TV with built in DVD, coal effect electric fire, hairdryer and a range of books. Nestling in a quiet location in the heart of the village, our thatched cottage is a get away from it all retreat, yet close to all that Plockton has to offer. Just the perfect place to come home to at the end of the day after exploring this wonderful area, truly unique! Guests have sole use of the cottage with its open plan living area, galley kitchen and toilet/shower room. There is also a dedicated parking space for cottage and garden ground in front of the cottage for one vehicle. Through the back door of the cottage guests can access the back garden with washing line for drying clothes (in addition to tumble dryer in the cottage) and further seating with view of the loch. This larger garden area is shared with our house. Guests may also have access to our loch-side garden in front of the main house. Whenever possible we like to meet guests on arrival and are on hand should they need information or assistance during their stay, either in person or by phone. We love Plockton's views of the water and mountains, sailing on the loch or going on Calum's seal trip from the harbour. Music nights in the Plockton Inn where the traditional Scottish music is second to none The village also has a good choice of excellent restaurants for dining out. Plockton is truly the jewel in the highlands! Plockton Station is at the outer edge of the village and about twenty minute walk from the cottage. From there, there is a regular train service on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line. From Kyle of Lochalsh you can take a bus to the Isle of Skye or South to Fort William or Glasgow. From Inverness you can access trains North to Wick/Thurso or South to Edinburgh/Glasgow and beyond. Ferry service from the South of Skye (accessed by bus from Kyle) will take you to Mallaig and from there to Isles of Eig, Rum, Canna, Muck, or to the western isles. From the North of Skye there is also a ferry to Tarbert on Harris. Plockton is a great location for exploring this beautiful area. The main bed is a sturdy stowaway double bed with metal action folding frame which converts to a sofa by day. The cottage sleeps a maximum of two but it can in addition accommodate a cot for a small child. We can provide a cot and high chair if required. No more than the maximum number of guests can be accommodated in the cottage at any time. The minimum stay is generally four nights but where availability cannot accommodate this shorter stays may be accepted on request. From guest feedback we do recommend at least four nights to enjoy all that Plockton has to offer and to explore areas such as the Isle of Skye , Glenelg or the Applecross peninsula, all accessible as day trips from the cottage. We also offer guests a reduction on the daily rates for stays of 7 nights or more.
