Private, peaceful, historic cottage set in the heart---locals call it the banana belt ----of the vineyards of Seneca Lake Wine Trails, breweries, hiking and snowmobile trails. Looking for a romantic hideaway? This home was a one-room schoolhouse for 150 years before becoming a private residence and one of the most unique places to stay in the Seneca Lake region. Just one mile from Seneca lake, this charming 150 year old one-room schoolhouse is surrounded on three sides by vineyards. Enjoy the 180 degree view of the Seneca lake region from our backyard. The setting is a mile to Seneca lake and set back from Hwy 414 so you can enjoy the quiet. Our family owned cottage has the unique octagon shape of schoolhouses built in its era. The central area features a rustically rebuilt stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. The main area contains a full bed, cherry drop leaf dinner table, comfortable furniture for relaxing, side cupboard, SeriusXM radio, a large television and DVD selection along with a bluetooth sound bar for your own music. (We have great cell phone service coverage, but this is a put-your-phones- and-computers-away NO-WIFI zone! There is NO CABLE TV). The well equipped kitchen area features a gas stove, cooking utensils, kitchen sink, refrigerator and microwave. There is a full size bed in the main room. There is a very small bunk room with 2 bunks that can accommodate a child or two. The small bathroom has a small step-in shower. Sheets and towels are provided. The mineral rich well water is ionized and safe, but drinking water is also provided. Our small patio and tree house are the perfect spots to relax and enjoy the gentle breezes from the lake and fantastic sunsets with the special wine or brews you find on your tours. There is air conditioning, propane heat and a wood burning stove. Wineries, breweries, local entertainment and fantastic local restaurants are obvious attractions. The schoolhouse is nestled between Seneca Lake and Finger Lakes National Forest so bring your hiking gear. Or hike the gorge in Watkins Glen State Park just 12 miles away. Our place is the perfect base for biking, hiking and sailing, kayaking, summer swims and winter snow mobiling. Day trips to Geneva, Ithaca, Corning, Niagara Falls and the other finger lakes are an easy drive. The drive from Elmira/Corning Regional Airport is 36 minutes. We are family owned and family run. Your privacy is assured. Write in the journal of your adventures and become a part of our family story! We are a simple cottage in the middle of a rural farming area. If you are looking for a fancy hotel experience, this is not it. But if you are looking for a unique country experience in a historic venue, we welcome you here! Guests have access to the entire home, the patio and grill. Kitchen is fully equipped. Coffee maker is regular drip. Jason and Jennie are available to answer any questions before 9pm and anytime for an emergency. The little round schoolhouse is nestled in a rural area up on a hill looking down into the Seneca lake region and near Finger Lake National Forest. Light breezes from the lake abound. Beautiful sunsets light the afternoon sky over the seneca lake topography. There is parking available on the property and several driving companies that can take you on a tour of the wineries, breweries, and waterfalls. There is information about the wine trail and other attractions supplied in the room. Our co hosts are long-time local residents and will be happy to help you find information you need about the area.
