INSIDE * Just refurbished and freshly painted in Farrow & Ball with all new, high quality furnishings modern bathroom and kitchen. * Great for both couples and families with cot and high chair available on request. * On entering the property there is a large, open plan sitting/living area with the kitchen and dining space to the rear. You will find a wood burning stove, beamed ceilings, a 2 seater settee, 2 armchairs and a window seat. There is TV, WiFi and a selection of board games. * The kitchen is well equipped with a dining table and 4 chairs. There is a dishwasher, electric oven, hob, fridge,freezer and washing machine/dryer. * The staircase is open tread and leads to the 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with large shower, WC and washbasin. * Bedroom 1 has a king size bed with super comfy mattress. * Bedroom 2 has 2 single beds. Both have plenty of wardrobe and storage space. OUTSIDE * Small, secure, south facing front garden with table, chairs and bench. Larger open plan garden to rear with another sitting area and clothes drying line. accessed by some fairly steep steps. Both have lovely views over green, undulating hills (Website hidden by Airbnb) Dedicated off-road parking space, a one-minute walk away in the pub car-park and additional off-street parking. POSITION * In the middle of a row of 3 cottages attached to the Sun Inn, so next door but one to the pub. * In the 1700s these were the smithy, butchers and general store and so were the focus of Crook village. * Rest assured, the old walls are very thick, so you can’t hear the neighbours. PUB * Serves great traditional food with local specialities, a range of guest beers and a wide range of gins. * Boasts several Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence as well as a four-and-a-half-star rating. * Sunny outdoor seating area for the Summer and cosy log fire for the Winter. * Favourite dishes include their Sunday roast and the sticky toffee pudding! I live a couple of miles from Sun Inn Cottage and there is a key safe for the property so you can be completely independent and not worry about delayed arrivals! I’m happy to give advice and recommendations on activities, eating places, walking routes, etc. ACTIVITIES * The Dales Way is on the doorstep with a wealth of other footpaths and bridleways to suit all levels. * There is a small 9 hole golf course half a mile away and also Windermere golf course 3 miles away. * Bike hire (electric and mountain) is available in Staveley (less than 5 minutes’ drive away), with guides for local trails. * Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England, is a 10 minute drive and here you can take a lake cruise, visit the newly opened Windermere Jetty Boat Museum, explore the World of Beatrix Potter attraction, browse the shops and cafes or just sit and admire the views! * The Lake shore park of Brockhole is also a 10 minute drive – here you can trek the tree tops, try out a variety of watersports or simply view the house and gardens – a must do for the kids! * A little further afield, but still within a 30 minute drive are the popular villages of Ambleside, Grasmere, and Hawkshead with The Langdale Pikes, Coniston, Grizedale Forest and Ullswater to name just a few of Lakeland’s special places. EATING OUT * If food and drink are your priorities, you’ve come to the right place! South Lakeland is proud of its local produce and there are numerous excellent pubs, restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes and budgets. * In the village as well as the Sun Inn, there is the Wild Boar and the Michelin-Starred Gilpin Hotel and Gilpin Spice. * Less than 5 minutes drive away, in Staveley you’re spoilt for choice with More Bakery, Hawkshead Brewery & Bar, Wilf’s Café, Mr Duffin’s Coffee, Café Elec and the Eagle & Child Pub. All serve delicious food and drinks! The brewery even offers guided tours! * Also not far away is the highly rated Punch Bowl Inn at Crosthwaite, The Black Labrador at Underbarrow and The Mason’s Arms at Strawberry Bank and Brown Horse at Winster. * ... And for those who simply want to stay in, there’s a delicious sourdough pizza delivery service! SHOPS * Staveley is your nearest local centre with groceries, traditional butchers, a chemist, Post Office, bike shop and antiques shop. * Kendal, 4 miles away has all the usual supermarkets, or Windermere also 4 miles away has a good Booths (the North’s answer to Waitrose) and smaller stores. * Plumgarth’s is a 3 minute drive away and boasts a great cafe and farm shop. * A car is recommended for guests as local public transportation is quite sparse! * Crook is 8 miles from Oxenholme railway station, which is on the main London-Glasgow line and there is a branch line station at Staveley. I provide a basket of logs with kindling and firefighters for the wood burner. Additional logs can be purchased at the Spa shop at Staveley or most petrol stations.
