Hayward House is a former 12th century rectory and occupies an exceedingly peaceful and secluded spot atop of Charlynch hill. Sitting next to its decommissioned church, Hayward House is surrounded by the glorious Quantock hills (England first AONB) and lies just a mile from the village of Spaxton and its handy community shop. The rear garden is a good family size with apple and pear trees (when in season obviously) and is ideal for lounging about and contemplating pointless stuff. The ground floor includes a drawing-room, a study area and a spacious timber-beamed dining room with a large inglenook fireplace. The kitchen is well fitted with a range of shaker-style furniture and a range style cooker. On the 1st floor, there is a spacious principal bedroom with an en suite bathroom, a family shower room, a further spacious double bedroom, and an adjoining decent-sized room that could be used either a third small bedroom (we have an inflatable mattress, etc.,) or a walk-in dresser area. Nearby is the village of Spaxton (with a post office/community store) and a little further afield there is Bridgwater (4 miles) and then Taunton, the County Town of Somerset, is within easy reach over the Quantock Hills (a 30 minute drive) and has many of the well-known high street stores and a vast array of excellent food & beverage outlets. Exeter is about a 45 min drive south, Bristol & Bath about an hour north. And if you drive westwards you'll reach Land's End (Cornwall) in about 3 hours and if you go east for about three hours you'll hopefully enjoy the seemingly never ending delights of the M25. Only four houses (of which Hayward is one) and a church in Charlynch so, you've pretty much got the whole neighbourhood to yourselves. Spaxton, the nearest village, has a shop and is a three minute drive or a 30 minute walk. Plenty of decent pubs offering good food, etc., in the surrounding villages. Further afield, if you fancy doing a bit of shopping, going to the movies, etc., you have Bridgwater about 15 minutes away (by car) or Taunton, the county town, about 30 minutes drive over the picturesque Quantock hills. Would seriously suggest a car unless you're an Olympian cyclist or exceedingly fit and there's suitable parking for at least two cars in the grounds (next to the house). The local area (a 12 mile radius) boasts loads of pubs & restaurants, a reasonable variety of sports facilities including a number of golf clubs (non-members welcome), horse riding, tennis, etc., and Taunton is home of the County Cricket Ground. Taunton is also good for communications having a main line station if you fancy hopping on a train. and easy access to Bath, Bristol & the Midlands via the M5, London via M4/M5 (or via the A303 if you're feeling scenic) or the opportunity to explore the great southwest.
