The village of Myddfai - famous for the ancient herbalists ‘The Physicians of Myddfai’ - is home to the 13th century St. Michael’s Church, renowned for its five huge arches. The village boasts an excellent visitors’ centre, shop and cafe, the building of which was the subject of the BBC’s Village SOS. The centre, opened by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall - near neighbours at the Llwynywermod Estate - sells locally made produce and gifts and hosts a book swap service, a monthly farmers’ market and other occasional events, talks and activities. Nearby are the Usk Reservoir, Llyn y Fan Fach of the ‘Lady of the Lake’ legend - and also from the legend Esgairllaithdy Farm from where one can buy lamb that grazed on the hills within sight of the house - and the Red Kite feeding centre at Llanddeusant. Llangoedmor House is a superb base for walkers, wildlife enthusiasts or those just seeking a quiet retreat in a beautiful place. Llandovery (3 miles): a friendly market town where you can find a supermarket, butcher, baker, greengrocer, Post Office, bank, Indian and Chinese takeaways, fish and chip shop and numerous independent retailers, including bric-a-brac and antique shops that are well worth a visit. Llandovery has a Business Hub with excellent internet connectivity in which you can find a desk on a daily basis, should you need one. Llandeilo (13 miles): becoming recognised as a chic destination for those in the know, Llandeilo has excellent shopping - the usual butcher, greengrocer and supermarket, but also an outstanding independent delicatessen, toy shop, kitchen shop, patisserie and quilting shop as well as a number of very good quality bistros, coffee shops, antique and interior shops and clothing boutiques. Its charming colourful houses perched on a hillside with spectacular views make it a fine place for a visit and a wander. Further afield: Brecon, Carmarthen, Crickhowell, Swansea, Bridgend and Hay-on-Wye are all achievable for a good day out. Parking is available right outside the front door. There is a train station 3 miles away in Llandovery which is on the Heart of Wales line. This connects directly with Swansea and Shrewsbury but is also a great way to enjoy the Brecon Beacons. We live twenty minutes away from the house, so you can enjoy your stay in privacy, but we can be there very quickly should you need us for any reason.
