Cosy stone cottage with lake view

Typical stone cottage on two floors, of ca 40sqm with veranda, in a 700sqm of terraced grassy land with fruit trees. View of lake Maggiore and the village. The cottage is in a very quiet area surrounded by nature, 4 minutes walk (upward) from the main parking in the village. It offers opportunity to do wonderful walks in the woods near the house. On the first floor there are two single beds and on the ground floor in the living area an additional sofa bed. The bathroom has a shower. The village is 1.7km from Cannero Riviera, the main municipality with shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Cassino di Cannero is a borough of Cannero Riviera on Lake Maggiore, on the Piedmont side, at 270 m on sea level. It’s a typical small village with stone houses. It’s the ideal spot for those who love nature, Italian lake landscapes and a temperate climate. Cassino di Cannero can be reached by car from Milano Malpensa Airport, 43.7 km away via the A26 and SS34 (in one hour and 30 minutes). It’s 79.3 km away from Milano Linate airport, 88.4 km from Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport and 120 km from Turin airport. It is possible to reach Cassino also on public transport: with VCO buses Brissago/Cannobio to Verbania, Intra/Pallanza and viceversa. The stop on demand is Cassino di Cannero on the national road SS34. In order to reach the village one has to walk from the national road uphill. Cassino is the starting point for wonderful excursions on foot, by car or with public transport (bus, ferry or hydrofoil) and for the sport lovers also by bycicle. On foot one can walk through the woods near the house, following paths and roads that lead to the nearby villages such as Donego (425m), Oggiogno which at 530m offers a wonderful view of the lake and hosts a typical grape press dating back to 1742 and which was recently restored or Alpe Ronno (782m) where once cows were led to graze. By car or bus, following the national road along the lake, it is possible to visit Cannero Riviera, which is the closest town. It’s 1.7km from Cassino and here one can find chemists, corner shops, supermarket, boutiques, shops plus restaurants and bars. It’s lively and pretty small town with two small tourist and fishermen’s harbours. Mount St Giorgio, which is a world heritage site, belongs to Cannero, while the islands just opposite the town and known as “Castelli di Cannero” belong to Cannobio and are the Italian islands furthest north on the lake. The castle called Malpaga, sheltered the Mazzarditi brothers until taken by force by Filippo Maria Visconti. The other fortress called Vitaliana is from the XVI century and was under the Borromeo family’s jurisdiction. They were both later abandoned and used by bandits and counterfeiters who used them as their haven. Cannobio, 6 km away is a typical small town with a wonderful waterfront. Not far is the Orrido di S.Anna, at the beginning of the Valle Canobina. Brissago in Switzerland is around 11 km far. Going the opposite direction one will arrive in Verbania Intra (13 km); Stresa (17km) and further on Arona, the last two being among the prettiest towns on the lake. One can also visit Villa Pallavicino (near Stresa) and admire rare and exotic plants or walk in its wonderful Italian Garden or through the hundreds of different types of camellia. The park also hosts lamas and deers that roam freely around the par, but also cangoroos, zebras, monkeys as well as exotic birds, which are part of its zoo. Villa Taranto (near Verbania) can be reached also by ferry from Cannero. It has a wonderful botanical garden, which is the result of the hard work started by Captain Ms Eacham in 1931. Another spot of natural beauty and interest is the national park of Val Grande. Theatre of historic happenings that have seen it inhabited and lived intensely, nowadays the valley is abandoned and lacks stable settlements, paved roads or other modern infrastructures: it’s the wildest part of the Alps. There are just traces of the past and kilometers of tracks and paths suitable for walks. By ferry or hydrofoil from Cannero on a day trip, it is possible to reach the most important towns and islands of lake Maggiore: - Isola Madre, the biggest of the Borromeo islands is also the most characteristic for it’s quiet and magical atmosphere. The island is particularly renown for it’s azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, but also for the very old wisteria pergolas, the biggest Kashmere cypress in Europe more than 200 years old, as well as it’s display of lemons and cedar trees, its hibiscus etc. Since 1978 one can visit the Palace dating back to the XVI sec, which is interesting for its collection of porcelain, dolls and liveries. The Count Vitaliano Borromeo started to build a monumental baroque palace and its garden on the Isola Bella in 1632. The Borromeo home offers visitor an elegant and rich setting that still contains priceless artworks: furniture, tapestries, paintings etc. The garden is a classic example of “Italian Garden” from the XVII sec. The Isola Superiore, also known as Isola dei Pescatori because of the type of work of its inhabitants is the smallest of the Borromeo islands and also the only one to be inhabited during the winter months. It hosts a variety of restaurants that offer fish and wonderful lake views. By ferry it is possible to visit St.Caterina del Sasso. The cloister built in the cliff in sheer drop above the water, was erected between the end of the XII sec and the beginning of the XIII sec and widened in the following centuries. The hermitage was built by the merchant Alberto Besozzo, after he survived a ship wreck. Worth visiting are also the Rocca Borromeo in Angera, a rare example of fortified medieval building completely preserved. Originally belonging to the house of Visconti hailing from the Verbano, it was bought in 1449 by the Borromeo. The imposing building contains evidence of the local history, which one can follow through the wonderful set of frescos dating back to the end of the XIII sec. Inside the fortress one can visit the Dolls and Toys Museum, founded in 1988 by the Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, which contains more than a 1000 dolls from all over Europe. For those who love the beach it is possible to sunbathe and swim on the beach in Cassino. In the nearby Cannero Riviera there is a well equipped beach, where it is possible to hire boats and paddle boats and from here reach the Castelli di Cannero for a visit or a swim. The Bar and restaurant are open during the summer. The towns on the lake traditionally host markets which offer local crafts and food products. The largest ones are in Cannobio on Sunday morning, in Intra on Saturday morning, in Luino on Wednesday (Luino is on the opposite side of the lake and can be easily reached from Cannero by ferry and hydrofoil).
