Lovely Converted Barn near Pyrénées

Located in a Béarn village between Navarrenx and Oloron St Marie. The gite, Les Galets, is a charming converted barn with 2 bedrooms and a swimming pool on the route de Compostela. Ideal for biking, hiking, skiing, golf, kayaking or just relaxing. The living area is open plan with a large corner sofa, a dining table and chairs as well as a TV, DVD player and stereo. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric hob and oven, a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, kettle and toaster. There are two large bedrooms located on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds and a sofa bed. Each bedroom is en-suite with a walk-in shower, toilet and wash hand basin. Set within a private landscaped garden with a patio/BBQ area, there is also a swimming pool 8m by 4m. The pool and sun loungers are located in a secure landscaped garden accessed directly from the gite garden and swings are located in the orchard. There is secure parking next to the owner’s house at the rear of the gite. If you need any help, just ask. We are here to help. The Local Area: Navarrrenx is a busy little market town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a local market twice a week and it also hosts several colourful fêtes during the summer. Navarrenx hosts the World Salmon Fishing Championships every year in the Gave d'Oloron. Oloron-Sainte-Marie is a larger town which has a beautiful cathedral. There are many shops and restaurants and a local Friday morning market. It is also the home of Lindt Chocolates! A visit to the factory is well worth it! L’Hopital St. Blaise (7.5 km) is home to the 12th century Romanesque church, a World Heritage site and a historic stop on the ancient Santiago de Compostella pilgrim route. Pau (50 min), is a beautiful city and the Boulevard de Pyrenees has stunning views of the mountains and the Pyrenees National Park. Enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine in one of the cafes on the Boulevard or visit the Chateau de Pau and the old town. Pau also boasts the oldest golf course on Mainland Europe. For motor enthusiasts, in May, Pau closes some of its streets for a round of the World Touring Car Championships and the Historique Automobile Grand Prix. Biarritz (90 min) is a chic and vibrant town popular with tourists and surfers, it has some of the best beaches in Europe and its surfing is world class. Biarritz plays host to an annual surfing championship in July. Good for shops, restaurants and people watching! Our nearest airports are Pau and Biarritz offering direct flights from the UK This is a rural village location and a car will be necessary. The pool is private but will be shared by the owners on occasion.
