Courtyard Gite & Garden Overlooking Charente River

'La Folie' is a split level courtyard gite & garden overlooking the Charente River. Located on the edge of Civray, half way between Poitiers and Angouleme. If you are just passing through this region of France and looking for a single overnight stay, we are located just midway through France. Or if looking to base your holiday here, there is plenty to do and see in this beautiful region. We also welcome those looking to purchase second homes in the area who need a central affordable base. Steps to 1st floor level entrance hall, kitchen/dinning area on the first level. Kitchen has gas cooker, washing machine, toaster, microwave, kettle, fridge/freezer, dinning table & chairs. Living room, bedroom and bathroom are accessed via a short open stair from the kitchen area. Bathroom: toilet, sink & shower, towels provided. Bedroom: double bed, storage, bed linen provided. Living room: freeview TV inc English channels only, DVD player, 2 sofa beds, small bar football table, books, games. Lovely countryside views from the property. Garden in courtyard has table & chairs, & on premises parking. Access to all outside area in front of the property, including gravel driveway and all garden area in the courtyard. Gite is self contained just for guests. Keys will be handed over upon arrival and a quick tour of the gite. As owners for over 12 years, we are happy to share our knowledge of the area and provide any information, help and advice throughout your stay. Our policy is to leave you as independent as possible unless you ask for our assistance. We want you to enjoy your stay enough to return to this region of France again. Our gite is located in the 2nd sunniest part of France known and the 'Golden Triangle' and has many beautiful towns and villages within a short drive. Also this area is well known for its sunflower fields and there are plenty of picturesque walks and cycling routes. Plenty of restaurants, local food & antique markets, places of historic interest, summer car boot sales and outdoor activities all within the immediate area. Plenty to do with a local market in Civray twice weekly, cinema, water slide park, Futuroscope, Vallee des Singes monkey park, canoe hire, cycling hire, Velo Rail, bird of prey displays, historic castles and chateaux all nearby. 4 local supermarkets all within 5 minutes drive. PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Nearest airport is Poitiers (40 min drive). Limoges airport is just under one hour drive. Car hire is available at both airports and would advise you pre book. Nearest train station is St Saviol and from here there is a bus service from the station into central Civray. You can walk to the property from Civray. Approximately 6 to 7 hours drive from Calais. 1.5 hours drive to the coast at La Rochelle. Our gite is located 15 minutes walk from the centre of Civray along the river Charente. DRIVING: We are located approximately half way between Poitiers and Angouleme. If you take the N10 dual carriageway direction southbound from Poitiers or northbound from Angouleme, take the D948 road signposted to Civray. Continue along this road for about 15 minutes. The D948 turns into the A148. At the second roundabout turn left onto the ring road around Civray A148 signposted Limoges and continue along the ring road. At the 3rd roundabout you will need to look straight ahead for the C'lair du Lune hairdressers (2nd turn off) and take this small track slip road past the hairdresser entrance and past the bundle of green post boxes, sharp right through a narrow passage into the courtyard. LA FOLIE IS LOCATED TO THE FAR RIGHT IN THE COURTYARD NUMBERED 37C. Please look for the house with the blue shutters. Park in front of the garage door and knock on the house main door.
