'Jennie's Cottage' is a delightful four bedroom cottage located in the very popular village of Castle Acre and is ideal for a family or two for the perfect getaway in the countryside. A group of cottages has stood on the site since the early 1800s. Originally tied cottages to Earl of Leicester's, Holkham Estate, 'Jennies' is actually 2 cottages, one a 2 up, 2 down and the other a single storey, one bedroom. In 2001 the single storey had a 1st floor extension which provided a further 2 bedrooms, family bathroom and an en-suite bathroom. We are 5 mins (2.5 Miles) from West Acre Theatre, 25 Mins (16 Miles) from Kings Lynn Corn Exchange and Arts Theatre and 40 mins (30 miles) from the Norwich Theatre Royal and Madder Market . The cottage is self contained and guests have full access to the property There are plenty of places to see and visit around Castle Acre. The village boasts a wealth of history and is a very rare and complete survival of a Norman planned settlement. There is much to see in Castle Acre including the castle ruins and the Cluniac Priory. Castle Acre Castle was built shortly after the Battle of Hastings by the first William de Warenne, a close associate of William the Conqueror. It is an extraordinarily well-preserved example of a motte-and-bailey castle and is one of the most impressive Norman earthworks in the country. Castle Acre has one the largest and best preserved monastic sites in England. Dating back to 1090, it was home to the first Cluniac order of monks to England. There is a lot for you to explore here, including the beautiful west end church gable, prior’s lodging and substantial remains of many of the buildings round the cloister. The recreated herb garden grows herbs, which the monks would have used for medicinal, culinary and decorative purposes. The Nar Valley Way is a fantastic and beautiful walk along the chalk stream river, twisting and turning along the Nar valley way with parts to ford, bridge, paddle, and encompasses a beautiful wood land element. Ultimately ending at the delightful village of West Acre for refreshments at The Stag Public House or the Duration Brewery, which has 'Tap Days' on Fridays and Saturdays.(Good Street Food and, more over, excellent beers!!) The village is self-contained and can boast 2 good Pubs and an excellent village shop which can supply almost everything the average party will need for a comfortable weekend. Other great amenities are only a country walk away. Arrive, Park Up and leave the car keys hung up for the weekend - unless you wish to explore further!
