The Bee Cottage Rutland - 17th century thatched!
Situated in the village of Cottesmore & only 5 min away from Rutland Water, is a 17th ct picture perfect thatched and recently refurbished cottage. With original features such as low ceilings and exposed beams, wood burning stove, the cottage provides accommodation for up to 5 people with deceptively large living areas. Free Netflix and WiFi provided. We welcome up to 2 well behaved, extremely cuddly & house trained dogs (please note an extra dog stay of £20 /). New Covid-19 rules added. The cottage has a deceptively large living area, with separate seating around a second decorative stone fireplace as well as a tucked away reading corner and a conservatory in which to enjoy a cup of tea. The dining room nestles between the kitchen, lounge and conservatory – bright and airy for leisurely breakfasts and perfectly practical for having an evening meal for up to 6 people. Free parking (on driveway & off-street). Upstairs, there are two beautifully presented bedrooms with crisp linens and fluffy towels. The third bedroom is situated downstairs with direct access to the garden (not recommended for younger children due to distance to other bedrooms). The cottage is situated in a quiet lane only a stone’s throw away from the village pub and shops. With plenty of activities to keep visitors of all ages busy around Rutland Water, the Bee cottage is the prefect place where visitors can relax and put their feet up after busy days exploring England’s smallest county. Dogs are very welcome, and the cottage garden is suitably enclosed. Dog owners of large breeds should note the fence at the back is 3 foot high. An additional charge of £20 will apply for bookings with dogs. Cars You have full use of the cottage. We have a gravel parking space alongside the cottage through some gates, please note this is relatively narrow for some vehicles (e.g. SUV). There is also some additional free parking directly opposite the cottage on the main road for wider than normal cars. Personal care. This is a 17th century cottage built around 1650 and the cottage remains a similar size to which it was originally built. Please note that some areas of the cottage contain low ceilings, beams and smaller than normal spaces. We strongly advise that our guests move with appropriate personal care around the property. There are few narrow doorways, therefore we advise that it is not designed for individuals with movement disability-related issues and wheelchairs or support frames are unlikely to be compatible within this cottage. Guests are welcome to contact their hosts for local information and tips. We enjoy setting up the cottage to our guests specific needs, for example we often leave out a welcome package which includes locally grounded coffee, a bottle of wine (or local ales) and some locally baked cookies - all to the requirements of our guests. Cottesmore Village is perfectly situated 5 minutes North of Rutland Water, only 5 minutes from the market town Oakham and 10 minutes from the beautiful historic town of Stamford, with it’s grand 16th century Burghley House. Rutland is England’s smallest county, offering plenty of outdoor activities as well as it’s market towns to explore. Rutland Water offers numerous leisure activities such as watersports, cycling, fishing and bird watching. The surrounding Rutland Villages are filled with Chocolate Box Cottages and traditional country pubs. The towns of Oakham and Uppingham offer a range of individual boutiques; Uppingham is renowned for it’s antiques and galleries, whilst the county town of Oakham has a mix of quality highstreet and independant shops – and even a castle! The town of Stamford is a historic stone town, and one of Britain’s best preserved old towns. With plenty of shopping, eateries and coffee shops amidst the beautiful architecture and alley ways, there is a lot to explore within Stamford. On the outskirts of the town is the beautiful Burghley House where vistors can enjoy a guided tour, take a walk around the park, take the children to paddle in the water fountains, or take time over lunch in the Orangery. Cottesmore has a bus that travels directly into the nearest town, Oakham. Both Oakham and Stamford have train stations with direct links to Peterborough for connections to London, Edinburgh and more. Guests are welcomed in person and provided with a supply of coffee, tea and freshly baked honey & oat cookies (please let us know if you have any allergies). We advise that the single room (located downstairs) is not recommended for young children due to proximity from other rooms.
