On the edge of the South Downs National Park near the historic Forest of Bere with lovely rural grounds overlooking the Rookesbury estate. It's a comfortable modern and very spacious apartment. Easy access to Fareham and the M27 With it's own entrance keeping the apartment separate from the main house, there is a well equipped kitchen, bathroom, huge living area and screened bedroom. We will be here to meet you and settle you in. Tea, coffee, milk and creature comforts will be provided. Occupying a space of around 70 sq. m. (or 750sq. ft in old money) this lower ground apartment offers a secluded getaway in the heart of the countryside. We are 2 miles from the stunning medieval village of Wickham which combines ancient history (the church dates from 1120 and sits on a large sacred mound), intriguing shopping, beautiful countryside and miles of walks and cycle rides. Set on a quiet road, we often wake to find deer, pheasants or green woodpeckers in the garden and although only 10 miles from the centre of Portsmouth the sky is dark enough to see the planets, shooting stars and the international space station. With an acre of garden, there are plenty of spaces to explore or just unwind - you are welcome to use the patio and barbecue, pick blackberries in season or just chill at the end of the garden with open space all around. There's a good size bathroom, huge living / sleeping area, separate well appointed kitchen and dining area as well as TV and surround sound audio system together with a good internet connection. New combination microwave and coffee machine recently added. We have a good internet connection, but mobile phone reception is variable. We recommend that you download your provider's app. to route calls over the internet, or alternatively just have a few hours or days without constant interruptions - it works very well for our work - life balance! There's hanging space for shirts or that party dress, and shelves for everything else that needs a space. These partition the bed from the rest of the room, and there is plenty of space to add single beds on request or for a travel cot. Let us know if you're bringing a travel cot as we waive the additional guest fee for little ones. In the summer the room is that bit cooler being set into the hillside and therefore partly underground. In the autumn and winter, complete underfloor heating provides a toasty welcome from a day exploring the local area. With separate access from our spacious driveway and parking for numerous cars, the apartment has everything you need for an overnight stop on your way to or from the Portsmouth ferry terminal, a longer business trip to Portsmouth, Southampton or Winchester or just a quiet getaway break. We'll always make sure one of us is on hand to welcome you to our home and we're usually on hand to answer any questions, recommend pubs, restaurants, shopping or entertainment. Our property backs onto open fields with views over to the forts on Portsdown Hill, with the Rookesbury Estate and Forest of Bere just across the road. A 10 minute walk up the road brings you to West Walk, an entrance to the ancient Forest of Bere with endless walking and cycling to cater for all requirements. During the second world war, the Forest was home to many Canadian soldiers, and the D Day landings were planned at nearby Southwick House. For those wishing to bring bikes, the Meon Valley Trail, a disused railway line is approximately 11 miles long with access to Wickham, Soberton (poorly named, there are some good pubs!), Droxford and West Meon. We are happy to help with bike storage if required and a selection of tools can be borrowed in case of need. Details about local pubs, restaurants and places to visit are provided in the welcome pack in the room. Car parking is off road and directly in front of the entrance. There is a local friendly taxi company (although if we're free you might find there's a lift back from the pub), infrequent buses from Wickham Square and trains from Wickham, Botley, Fareham, Havant and Petersfield depending on where you want to get to. From Portsmouth there are ferries, and a hovercraft to the Isle of Wight; Southampton and the New Forest are less than an hour away. We are 20-25 minutes from the centre of Portsmouth with extensive shopping (Gunwharf Quays is a must), the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with the Mary Rose (1510) HMS Victory (1765) and Pete's favourite HMS Warrior (1860) - well worth a visit. If you want to travel (or arrive from) further afield, we are 25 minutes from Petersfield Station (with 90 minute trains to or from London Waterloo)
