Historical Palace in Sabina hill village sleeps 29
Palazzo Forani is situated in a delightful stone hill village only 60km from Rome. The area, known as Sabina, is rich in art, culture, natural beauty and gastronomic delights. It will suit couples, singles, families, birthday or anniversary parties and even intimate weddings. At €75 for 2 €85 for 3(triple) a night it is really good value. The guest areas have been renovated with extreme care and respect for the great age of the buildings. Much of the furnishings dates back to the glorious 1700s. Palazzo Forani also welcomes small groups as there are 3 separate wings. We have a minimum stay of 2 nights (3 at Christmas and New Year). Some bedrooms are triple therefore excellent value at €85 per room per night if occupied by 3 people (please note, the website does not cater for ROOM prices so the price that comes up is usually wrong - write for a price!) . We apply discounts for large groups or long stays. The courtyard can be used to eat out in or just relax with an aperitivo. The garden is of the old-fashioned variety, not manicured and landscaped! Palazzo Forani fronts onto one of the typical narrow, stone streets that wind their way around the hill village of Casperia up to the Baroque church and the town hall. Each wing has its own living space and kitchen and can therefore be occupied by different small groups or a large group can cook and eat in the marvellous party room. 12 people can however eat in the Granary kitchen. We can welcome up to 29 people. Please note that in winter we ask for a €200 contribution towards heating - this does not appear on the calculation of costs when you insert the number of guests so you must add it to the total. Also, our prices are on a per room basis which is not enabled on the website so you calculate how many rooms you need and multiply by €75 (or €85 if there is triple occupation - we have 3 triple rooms)) you'll have an idea of your total. Do ask us for a price though! We may have a special discount or a large group price for you! SPECIAL OFFER NOVEMBER!! Book 3 nights & you get a 4th night free! We can also arrange a guided tour of the private areas of Palazzo Forani - the Cardinal's Room is well worth a visit not to mention the Liberty bathroom and the Music room. There is also a Forani performance by a theatrical group from Rome, written and set in the Palazzo to traditional renaissance music. A minimum of 25 paying guests are needed and a certain amount of time to organise it! Yoga and painting courses can be organised too. We can organise your dinner if you prefer to eat in some evening - one of our helpers Anna Maria has a daughter who runs the fresh pasta shop in the village and prepares wonderful freshly cooked meals at very reasonable rates - so nice after a hard day's touring around! . We even have a party room for 30 people in the olive pressing cellar that you can rent for parties! Another helper, Gianna, will be in to change your towels if you stay over 3 days and of course your sheets if you stay longer. She's also on hand if you have any problems. Our housekeeper Daniela and her husband Carlo are also available - bulbs can sometimes go or for things you need and don't know where to go! Our friend Déirdre is always at the end of her mobile if you have difficulties communicating in Italian! If you don't tell us your concerns we can't resolve them so DO tell us if anything can be improved BEFORE it's too late to do anything about it! The booking process can be quite confusing so you need a dose of patience to get through it - for example, for us hosts there is no option for indicating winter heating charges so it doesn't show up on the calculation of what you pay - in our case, our heating costs are enormous and in winter we charge a €200 contribution so you have to remember to add this to your stay costs. Nearby you will find the wonderful l'Abbazia di Farfa, Lago di Turano, Caprarola, not to mention the jewels of 'Umbria, Orvieto, Perugia and many others. A car is recommended! Many thanks to some guests who have underlined it is impossible to get up to Palazzo Forani with a large minibus, the gateway is just too narrow and the road winding. We are so used to it we hardly notice it but it can prove a challenge in a car so don't take a wide minibus! Being so close to Rome means you can take day trips by train. The train station Poggio Mirteto Scalo is only 9km away and trains for the centre of Rome leave every hour and take only 45/50 mins to reach Tiburtino or Trastevere. The same train will then carry you on to the airport at Fiumicino without changing. The damages deposit includes a €100 KEY LOSS or damage deposit as we have been obliged to replace the locks on the 15th/17th century doors on occasion since people forget to give back the keys so beware!!
