Cozy All-Seasons Getaway!
Lovely home: pet friendly, solid internet and cell phone service, excellent large kitchen that opens directly onto outdoor patio, BBQ grill and fire pit. Fenced in yard with supersized hammock, herb garden, etc. Private yet not isolated, entire house is yours for however long you need. We are sure you will love it as much as we do. Cozy vacation home in the Northern Catskills region, away from the city but close to summertime swimming and hiking and wintertime skiing/snowboarding. Available for weekdays, weekends or a longer (discounted) rental for a great get-away. Our home is the perfect quiet, rustic getaway from city life and easily sleeps up to 6 adults or a small family. Situated in the town of Prattsville, the house is a 2.5-hour drive from the city and just minutes from 4 great unique ski/snowboard mountains: Windham (12 min.), Hunter (15 min.), Belleayre and Plattekill 30 min south are well worth the extra 15 min to visit. Very accessible in winter weather, the house is located at the end of a quiet side street, providing the convenience of a short walk to a supermarket, diner, bar, hardware/general store, liquor store and laundry mat. Less isolated than a "house in the woods", (we do have neighbors), but still just as quiet, private and peaceful. During the summertime, Prattsville weather is nearly always at least 10 degrees cooler than NYC. The best swimming is less than a 5 min walk away and maintains a wonderful 74 degrees of super clean water to swim in all summer long. There are two bicycles for further exploring. Highly detailed hiking maps/books describe every trail in the entire Catskills area, the nearest trailheads are a 5 to 10 minute drive up across the river to Bearpen or Vly mountains. A simpler hike is to nearby Pratt Rock, a historic landmark or anywhere along the beautiful Schoharie river. You might see a few bald eagles. Nearby Hunter mountain has the amazing zipline plus other activities during spring, summer and autumn. Enjoy cooking in our large, fully equipped kitchen. The spacious and well-equipped kitchen opens to a furnished back patio and fenced in yard (great to keep doggies in), fire pit, charcoal grill, garden/herb garden (tomatoes on the vine and every exotic fresh herb possible), comfortable lawn chairs and extra large hammock. Hummingbirds, orioles and many other uncommon bird species are regular residents, breeding just outside our door every spring and summer. Enjoy the warm wood-burning stove for the winter ski season. If you have never yet had the opportunity to experience the pleasures of a wood stove, now is your chance. Once it gets going, it heats the entire house, the temperature typically reaches 70 to 75 degrees in the stove room/dining living room area and upper 60's throughout the rest of the house. Unlimited wood for your use is stacked inside and outside. Board games, books, and a full cookbook library await you. Upstairs: Master bedroom with comfortable queen sized mattress, (extra full sized air mattress hides under the bed or closet if ever needed.) Second bedroom with just as comfortable full-sized mattress. Plenty of warm bedding: 2 heavy down comforters, wool blankets, polyester comforter, 100% cotton sheets, one sleeping bag. Downstairs: Fold-out futon (sleeps two) Large living room with 40 inch flat screen TV, DVD, Cable TV, Wireless internet and sofa (sleeps one) Full bathroom with shower and tub. WiFi and solid ATT and Verizon cell phone reception so you can stay connected, plus land line, (or use S*k*y*p*e for long distance if you bring your laptop). DVD player, large flat screen cable TV and radio. Chess set (two), Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Scattergories, Blokus, cards, poker chips/set. Garage holds one vehicle. There are two bicycles for warmer weather exploring. Patio, hammock, garden, BBQ grill and fire pit for warmer months. Trailways bus stop, bringing you back and forth to NYC, is a 3 min walk away, but a car is recommended for this area to explore outside of town. [Please note, for wintertime months the main preferred heat source is the wood stove, (free wood provided), along with a few simple steps detailed within our check-in list, sent once booked] Guests have access to the entire house. The house is set up for self-entry. We will communicate via email and phone. The neighborhood is so quiet yet not isolated. The house is to the end of a quiet side street off Main Street in Prattsville, NY. Prattsville is a sleepy little historic town along the Schoharie Creek and nestled within the northern Catskill mountains. Prattsville is rebounding after the devastating floods from Hurricane Irene a few years ago, today providing more businesses than ever existed before the floods. There is a bus stop (Trailways) just a 3 minute walk away at Youngs Ace Hardware. Daily bus runs to and from Port Authority and NYC twice a day. Once you book I will send detailed instructions with pictures for your smooth arrival, plus easy check in and check out lists to foolproof your stay.
