La Caironière
Our refurbished 3 bedroom home is in rural Essoyes, a picturesque French village in the Champagne region on the river Ource. The very popular visitor attraction - the Home of Renoir with museum is about 100m down the road. It is a homely house with a large kitchen/living room with a large fireplace with log burning stove to keep the house toasty in the cooler seasons. this area has a staircase leading to bedroom 1. On the ground floor there is also a large dining room with a staircase leading to bedrooms 2 and 3. Bedroom 1 - a double bedroom, has shutters on a window that overlooks the back garden and has a french armoire for your clothes. Bedroom 1 and 2 are interconnecting by a door. Bedroom 2 - another double room has another french armoire and shutters too on a window that overlooks the road towards the church. Bedroom 3 - the twin bedroom has a smaller wardrobe and shutters again on a window overlooking the road. There is a pull-out single sofa-bed/mattress suitable for a child (up to 12 years) in this room also, but it would not be recommended for an adult. We have a very large garden with a lovely stonework BBQ area. There are garden tables and chairs outside. There is parking immediately in front of the house for up to 2 cars, there is also plenty of street parking on the road to the rear of the property which is accessed through the back gate. Feel free to use the BBQ area. You will need to get charcoal, and please leave the BBQ area as you found it. Wood for the wood burning stove can be purchased from our neighbour as arranged. You will be welcomed by our English/French speaking friend who will show you around, tell you about the area and answer any questions you may have. Renior's house is less than 100m from his house which opened to visitors in June 2017. Not only are there are lots of Champagne houses and vineyards to keep the adults happy but there are also many family friendly local attractions, including Nigloland Theme Park, lakeside beaches, fishing, water-sports, Tree-top high wire courses, golf and beautiful historical towns, villages and buildings. The Village is very pretty, voted 19th in France's most beautiful villages in France. It has two cafes by the river where you can eat, a restaurant at the hotel on the hill, a pizzeria by the church on the square. A kebab takeaway shop is handy for quick meals too. There are beautiful walks and cycle rides around the area as it is relatively flat, with a few hills to add interest. They are safe roads and very little traffic, so we happily take the children on bike rides on the roads. There is a Casino supermarket, a cash machine, post office, 2 boulangeries (one is 100m from the house), a butcher, a papershop, a deli and a few other small shops in Essoyes. The nearby town of Bar-sur-Seine (15 mins drive) has 3 larger supermarkets and two petrol stations. For this reason and to explore properly, I would strongly suggest having a car for your stay. There is no TV showing channels at the moment, however there is a small TV screen (22" I think) on which you can watch DVDs or play our Playstation 2. There are many DVDs, games (inc PS2 games, Petanque, tennis rackets & balls, and numerous indoor board games) and books you are welcome to enjoy during your stay.
