The Hayloft - a cottage on our Lake District farm

Completed in July 2020, The Hayloft is one of 3 cottages in our old stone barn near Ullswater lake in the Lake District. A large arched doorway and roof lights let plenty of light into the open plan kitchen/dining /living area. The double bedroom, with en suite, is on the upper floor beyond the kitchen. The second bedroom (double/twin) is downstairs with bathroom. Many of the original timber beams have been retained or recycled to try and honour the heritage of this old building whilst ensuring that it is a comfortable, cosy space to spend time in. The cottage has its own outside sitting/eating area with a bench and table overlooking the fells. We are usually around and very happy to offer suggestions and advice on walks, activities and dining in the area. The farm is located in Matterdale, a peaceful valley off the beaten track, just above Ullswater lake. We are not on a direct public transport route but the bus from Penrith stops less than 10 minutes away and we are happy to pick up and drop off. The nearest train station is Penrith (20 minutes drive) and we will try to pick up if we can.
