It is the start of the seventy mile Cumbrian Way created by the local Ramblers Association in the nineteen seventies. The Cumbria Way starts in Ulverston and the route goes through the Lake District before ending in Carlisle city centre. It’s a fantastic tour of a beautiful county, and a celebration of some amazing landscape. Ulverston is known as the Festival Town and has a rich programme of events throughout the year. It is the birthplace of the original community lantern procession which began over 35 years ago, a tradition that is still going strong every September with over a thousand home made lanterns creating a river of light through the streets. In Ulverston you will find traditional music, dance nights, live music in pubs, comedy, independent cinema, farmers markets and an exciting programme of festivals. These include Lantern Festival, Flag Fortnight, Dickensian Festival, Furness Traditions, Ulverston International Music Festival, Ulverston Buddhist Festival and Another Fine Fest. So do have a look to see what's on before you visit. If you would like any help with local information in relation to your stay we will be happy to help! Search for Choose Ulverston online.
