House in the centre with private parking & garden
Just more than 1 hour traveling from Paris, you’ll be in Bernay, a town of art and history dating from the 5th century. Our home is an elegant house, well-decorated with one eye on lux and one on the stylish bric-à-brac. You’ll still feel at home with urban sensibility, yet you can drop everything, join the vintage Saturday market, go into the woods or fields or stroll around the village and taste the famous local gastronomy. A great weekend awaits at our Normand cosy home by the fireplace. Our place is located in the heart of Bernay, 7’ walking from the train station and next to the Saturday market area. It’s located in the circle of touristed places of Bernay. Despite of the center location, the house is completely quiet. We have a private parking place in the front yard and a small garden with terrace in the back yard. The master bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed topped with soft cotton linens and a private corner for reading. The twin-bedroom with two single beds is ideal for families with kids. We offer drawing board, table and toys for kids if required. Both rooms can put extra bed. Our living room is large and looking to the garden with comfortable sofa and the fireplace. The dining room can serve 6 people for a nice home cook meal, adjacent to the fully-equipped kitchen, when you want to cook a Western or Asian meal. We have a “raclette machine” ready if you feel like to have a cosy cheese party at home. We also offer utensils for barbecue. The house has one toilet in the ground floor and one bathroom upstair. Besides, we have a laundry room with dryer. In short, our place offers everything you need for a pleasant stay. You have full access to the house, except the 2nd floor where we keep our belongings. Today the city has preserved this attraction with its Saturday market in rue Thiers, where you will find excellent local produce that are the hallmark of Norman gastronomy. *** Abbaye Notre-Dame - Abbey: Founded in the early 11th century by Judith of Brittany, wife of Richard II, Duke of Normandy, the abbey is one of the first Romanesque churches in Normandy. *** City Hall: The abbey buildings from the late 17th century have kept all the majesty that they had given the monks Maurists. They were converted after the revolution and now house the town hall and the court. *** Museum of Fine Arts: Established since 1891 in the old abbey house, the building of bricks and stones from the late 16th century houses a fine collection of faience from Rouen (fund of about a thousand pieces). *** Holy Cross Church: Begun in 1374, its construction was not completed until the late 19th century. The whole forms a coherent composition Gothic despite the contributions of the classical (XVIII) and the Revival of the late 19th century. The interior is mainly from the former abbey of Bec-Hellouin: High altar topped by eight marble columns, 16 large statues of apostles and evangelists. *** Basilique Notre-Dame de la Couture: Founded in 1340 on the site of a chapel of the 11th century, it was established as a basilica in 1950. We discover a fine collection of stained glass windows of the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The building is topped by an octagonal pyramidal spire pierced at its base with four pinnacles of great lightness. *** Multimedia Cultural Centre: The old "mill of the great tower," mill of the abbey sold after the Revolution, was completely renovated in multimedia cultural center. Enjoy the architectural achievement that combines brick, wood and glass in a harmony of old and contemporary. It now houses various media of knowledge of past and present: From legacy fund from the abbey to the new information technologies. *** Rue Gaston Folloppe, known as antique street: The street pays homage to one of the most famous of the region resistant shot by the Germans. Now run by second-hand dealers and antique dealers, this street is a charming testimony of the past with its row of narrow frontages. *** Jail Street: This street is typical of old Bernay has retained its charm. It will surprise you with its medieval appearance and its narrow roadway with no sidewalk, covered with rugged stones. *** The Gabelle: Beautiful hotel built by Jacques-Philippe Bréant, salt-tax collector in the mid-18th century. You will admire the facades of brick covered with orange tiles, and the wealth of topics on the key stone of the berries. You will also notice the monumental sculptures of the portal of entry, which would set up shop once bore arms in France marking the origin of the tax on salt. *** The Franciscan monastery: Located at Rue de la Comédie, the Franciscan monastery was founded in 1275. It occupies a large space, near the Benedictine abbey and has remarkable between-studs made of small bricks arranged in decorative patterns with monograms and religious symbols. *** Norman Homes: Bernay has a very fine collection of old houses with wood sides often decorated with carved designs from the 15th and 16th century streets of Lisieux, St. Alexander and Augustus Street Leprévost. Some of them are still visible but hidden by modern storefronts rue Thiers (No. 6 and No. 31). *** Circuit "water, stone and wood": Explore the city through a walking tour "of water, stone and wood." Markup to the ground by drawing "the king in majesty" punctuated by explanatory signs will guide you according to your curiosity and your imagination, in the old neighborhoods rich in history and monuments to which are the pride of heritage. A brochure of the circuit is available at the Tourist Office. *** Mountains: Discover the heights of the city by walking on the mountains. The dome of green bordered by a double row of plane trees will offer an impressive view over the city and the valley. A staircase located rue du Calvaire offers access to classified site. *** Rivers: the city is crossed by two rivers: the Charentonne Cosnier and who played an important role in the industrial life of the city during the 19th century. Many houses had a special laundry still well preserved today. *** Green Lane Bernay-Broglie Bernay has many footpaths, including a "greenway" of 12 km directly connected to the city center (the library's garden). This route covered with asphalt allows everyone to enjoy relaxing moments in the privileged setting of the valley of Charenton. *** Golf Charentonne Pastoral: Pastoral golfing Charentonne Bernay located along the greenway advocates a return to golf that involves the practice of sport in the preservation and promotion of heritage. Its creation, on the banks of Charenton, allows a rediscovery of ancient meadows bathing located in a valley classified natura 2000. It consists of a 9-hole course and a pitch and putt course, together with drive space and a clubhouse and a pro shop.
