TongPun Escape Hostel is located 30-min away from Chiang Rai downtown. You can bike, hike or walk around our neighbour area. There are shared kitchen&dining area with garden views. Close to Doi Mae Salong, Doi Tung, Lady Lagoon, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen My name is Meo, I'm open this space for every guest to visit and stay with us like our friends come over. I'd like tourists to know more about my small hometown. TongPun Escape Hostel is very clean and has simple beauty, only 5-10 minutes walking or biking away from our place, you can access rice field, hills, local markets and exotic scenery. Lalang-roof cottage , shared kitchen, dining area, gardens around the house, our little corner of reception & library of the main house. I stay in this place too, we share spaces like housemates. Don't worry if you need any helps, only call my name. We're quiet, peaceful, slow life & really local living, no tourist traps. It's also not hard to find the ways to go to Doi Mae Salong, Doi Tung, Lady Lagoon, Mae Sai (Burma's border), Chiang Saen. We can arrange you rental bike, motorbike or car as your request. HOW TO GET TO TONGPUN By Bus From Chiang Rai City bus terminal (old one), take a small non-air-conditioned dark green bus or grey van heading to Mae Sai or Chiang Saen, it will take around 45 minutes to get to Mae Chan. You need to get off at a bus stop in front of Mae Chan District Office. Then take a motorbike or walk to TongPun only 5 minutes. Or give us a call, we can pick you up there. From Chiang Mai, take Green Bus to visit us. There are many bus lines, try to take the one that will go to Mae Sai or Chiang Saen, tell the bus staffs that you would like to get off 'Mae Chan' (แม่จัน) , they will stop at Mae Chan Post Office. Then make us a call to pick you up. (Please email us your bus schedule, then we can arrange someone waiting for you at the post office bus-stop) By Plane There are few airlines from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, Thai Airways/Bangkok Airways/Nok Air/Thai Lion Air/Air Asia. The longer you book a flight in advance, the cheaper ticket you will get. From Chiang Rai Airport, take a taxi to TongPun will cost you around 250 THB. (It's around 25 kilometres). But if you make reservation more than 3 nights or 3 people in a group, you'll get free pick-up, only let us know your flight schedule. By Car If you drive to TongPun, take Phaholyothin Road from Chiang Rai city, it'll take around 25 minutes. When you pass Mae Chan policeman inspection spot or you notice that Mae Chan Hospital on your left, you will hit T-junction. Then you need to slightly turn left to Mae Chan-Fang-Tha Thon road, then turn right to Mae Chan Downtown. Go along this main street of Mae Chan, there is a small intersection before Mae Chan District Office, you need to turn left right here. Keep go along the street, across a small bridge (Chan River), you will see a noodle place on your right, that means you're on the right track and almost get there. You will hit another small T-junction, slight turn left, only 100 metres , you will see TongPun on your left. Our main gate is white with red mailbox and black concrete fence. FOOD AND DRINKS Breakfast is not included & we don't sell food but you can order local food & drinks from our neighbour, you can find their menus in our dining area. It will take only 15-20 minutes, no delivery fee. If you would like to try our tasteful TongPun homemade no-MSG food, you give us a short notice a meal before your need. TongPun meals are not the same as others; it will be like you join our table and share meals with our family. Our food will be real clean and exotic food, made from some local ingredients and we serve only brown rice. The most interesting point will be ‘you never known the menus before’ including me, it’s up to my mom, my big chef. It will be cost 60 THB/person/meal. TONGPUN ACTIVITIES : THAI COOKING CLASSES We can arrange Thai cooking classes for you, let us know which Thai recipes you would like to learn and be expert. We need 1-2 days to do a preparation and then you can rock our kitchen with our Thai food master who is…..my mom!! The class fee depends on your menus. We can do a discussion. LADY LAGOON ONE-DAY TRIP It’s very local place that not many tourists know about it yet. Be the FIRST to experience it! We will do a picnic & swim there. It will be cost 400THB/person (including a lunchbox & a bottle of water). We’ll leave TongPun around 10:30 AM, go up north, it takes 20 minutes to get there. You can swim, sunbathe, read a book or hiking to a nearby cave. We provide you a lunchbox in the package. Then we’ll leave around 14:30, have a short visit at Chui Fong tea plantation before heading back TongPun and arrive around 16:30. ‘HONG NANG BAAB DIN’ โฮงหนังบ้านดิน ADOBE CINEMA PROJECT VOLUNTEERING (Only in December to April) I have a big dream to make a community cinema for children & people in a remote area to get a chance to watch good films. I believe good films can educate people, they will learn something from this Edutainment. And also it would be nice that they can have some entertainments in their area. My dad offer his land that is among hill tribe small villages, around 14 kilometers west of TongPun Escape Hostel, absolutely I take it right away. But we don’t have much money to invest and my dad wants to use natural material to build it, soil which we have plenty in our land. So, we need lots of volunteers to help us in every step. If you’re free and interested for volunteering in our project for a day, please let us know. We provide you free meals. We usually do it on weekend because I & my dad have other weekly jobs to take care. But don’t worry we can adjust the schedule.
