At the end of a wooded lane through a farm gate is a converted 1930s cargo rail carriage. Recovered from the NE Railway it retains many original features transforming it into a cosy tiny house. This light open-plan space has glazed doors onto a private garden and stunning views. It's furnished with a bespoke handcrafted daybed which converts to a full-double with comfy mattress & luxury topper, a dining table with stools, equipped kitchen and separate wet room and radiator heating. Wifi in Situated next to the family farmhouse the Carriage is one of four dwellings on a small 18th century farmstead overlooking the Column to Liberty and breathtaking views of the Derwent Valley and the National Trust Gibside Estate. The south-facing Carriage has a private garden with seating for dining, relaxing, bird watching and star gazing. From here you can wander through the garden gate into the meadow down to the River for some wild swimming, fishing or to explore the endless miles of walk and cycleways. The guests have access to their own private garden with outdoor seating. The garden gate gives access via foot directly into the meadow and beyond. Guest cars can be parked in the public area immediately outside of the main farm gate and guests can walk along the driveway to access the Carriage.. We care about our guests experience and while happy to answer any questions we respect your privacy. Although no longer a working farm you may see the owner in her organic garden or tending the beehives with dog and chickens roaming. Situated just up from the Derwent River and next to the Derwent Walk and the C2C cycle route, the surrounding countryside has many beauty spots for walking, running, cycling and swimming. Within walking distance the village has a cafe, small Tesco’s and Boots, a hairdresser, beautician, florist, newsagent, fish & chip shop and micro pub. A short walk along the Derwent Walk brings you to the Derwent Park with playing fields, riverside picnic areas and kids playgrounds. The expansive grounds of National Trust Gibside offers a tea shop and programme of events/activities throughout the year. In addition to a number of National Trust properties within easy reach there is the amazing Beamish Museum, Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Reservoir & Observatory and the famed Castles along the Northumbrian coastal route - all making for enjoyable days out. While the accommodation is nestled in a quiet rural setting it's only 10 minutes drive from the A1 (North/South) and 15 minutes from A69 Hexham/Carlisle. It is 10 miles from Newcastle, 14 miles from Durham, 18 miles from the North Sea and 4 miles from the Metro Centre. Within a short walk there is a bus stop with regular service to Gateshead, Newcastle and beyond. On fine days the chickens and ducks will be roaming and we have a friendly cat and cockerpoo. There are 3 bee hives located on the farm. A small well-behaved pet is welcome for an additional £10 per stay.
