Historic Heart of Carhaix
My home in Carhaix is cosy and comfortable; it has all you need for an easy holiday for up to 4 people. A small lock up outhouse is available to store your bikes, and clothes washing facilities (washer and dryer) can be booked in advance for an additional fee. The house has all you could need.. it is warm, cosy and comfortable with a cottage feel. It is fully equipped and functional. Please note that despite renovation, due to the constraints of the building it is not accessible for disabled guests. Cleaning materials are included. Recycling bins and community dustbins are situated at the side of the house, in the small carpark. There are shutters on the downstairs window and upstairs landing if you like, or curtains throughout. The whole house is yours during your stay; a separate locked door gives access to the outhouse for bike storage and/or clothes washing facilities. There is no designated parking, but there are parking spaces at the side of the house, a car park opposite and many larger carparks within a few minutes walk in town. We live half an hour away.. depending on your arrival time, we can either meet you at the house or tell you how to access the house in our absence. All information you could need will be available, in French and English, together with contact details should you need to get in touch. The house backs onto the attractive tourist area of Carhaix with a great range of boutiques, markets, bars, cafes and restaurants.. all within a couple of minutes walk. Choose from Crepes, Pizzas, Organic, Thai, classic French cuisine... try the fantastic value "Formules"... (or if you want something more familiar, head for the fast food giants at the bottom of town). Great for Gourmets! There is a function room, La Salle des Halles, in the street behind the house which is used for events such as concerts by local Breton musicians, dances and exhibitions. Keep your ears open for the Bagad Breizh practicing, and your eyes open for posters and events on the door! Try a Fest Deiz or Fest Noz for a truly Breton experience. There is also a community cafe attached; a great place for an excellent value and top quality meal served by young people with learning difficulties. The house is also centrally placed for those visiting Carhaix for family reunions at the local churches, or cultural events in Carhaix. The Espace Glenmor hosts some big names so check out their Agenda! In winter or summer, the swimming pool, Plijador, is fantastic value for all the family, with training pool, fun pool with jets, massage tables and large jacuzzi as well as an excellent outdoor pool and poolside waterpark and loungers for the summer. A park with fitness equipment and kids play area is adjacent. Please note Carhaix is the home of the Vieilles Charrues festival in the summer.. one of the largest in Europe. Expect the town to be buzzing throughout this period! Separate rates apply for this event. Carhaix lies on the VELODYSSEY cycle trail, making it an ideal stopping point. There is a free bus (HOP!) which circuits Carhaix from the town centre to the supermarkets and out of town retail park, the swimming pool, cinema and Espace Culturel Glenmor. There are good public transport links around Carhaix to Morlaix and Rosporden by train, Chateaulin and Brest by bus, as well as other villages and towns locally, as well as a host of activities within the town itself making it an ideal place for people preferring a holiday without a car. Please be aware it doesn't have a garden, although there are green spaces all around town. The house is a very old renovated townhouse; the walls aren't square, the ceilings are low in parts.. it has character! No smoking inside please! If you want a private place to smoke, you'll have to visit the outhouse... there's a small back door there if you want to smoke in the fresh air :)
