Built in 1840, in the heart of Coldingham, Abbey Cottage has been restored to make a comfortable and stylish home. Perfect for exploring the Borders and Northumberland, a short walk to the lovely beach, and within easy reach of Edinburgh or Berwick. Abbey Cottage is a detached house that has been restored to a very high standard, creating a comfortable and stylish base from which to explore Southern Scotland and Northern England. The house can very comfortably accommodate 6 people with three double bedrooms (one with twin beds) on the first floor, and a further room on the second with a sofa-bed. On the ground floor there is a dining room and living room, both with open fires and a fully equipped kitchen/breakfast room. There is a shower room with WC on the ground floor, and a traditional bathroom upstairs with huge bath. The house has a large garden to the side with a delightful sunny front garden, and a patio at the rear for outdoor dining. The enclosed driveway has parking for 3 cars and there is also a small car park in the village square. You will have exclusive use of the property which is detached and within its own gardens. The garden is extensive and secure, with steps to the side garden where there is a large area of grass, little orchard and and washing line. We are based In Edinburgh and sometimes able to greet you personally, but only ever a short journey away should any emergencies occur. Inside the house there is lots of additional information. We can offer local tips and advice on places to go, things to see and good restaurants/cafes. Coldingham is a beautiful historic conservation village on South East Coast of Scotland with an award-winning beach, very popular for surfing, walking, cycling and bird watching, as well as riding and fishing. Nearby St. Abbs is renowned for being a National Trust Nature Reserve and marine conservation area as well as offering chartered boats and diving expeditions. In Coldingham there are two pubs, one serving food, the other with a beer garden, and a minimarket as well as a traditional butcher, antique shop, and Post Office. There is also a fish and chip shop in the nearby caravan site. The historic Priory is 3 minutes walk away and its fascinating history (and a coffee) can also be discovered in the Luckenbooth. There is excellent surfing at Coldingham and further up the coast at Pease Bay with lessons for all levels. 3 miles away Eyemouth, a thriving fishing village, boasts a range of shops including two lovely chip shops with award-winning ice cream, a Dive Centre, swimming pool, and museum. At the harbour you can also feed the seals! Around 12 miles away, Berwick upon Tweed has a regular antique market and arts centres, as well as a retail park with all the major supermarkets. Walk around by the barracks amidst lovely views of the estuary and its bridges, as well as following the L.S. Lowry trail, and visit the art galleries. Further on you will find Spittal Promenade, Cocklawburn beach, Paxton House and and Manderston, as well as the historic Union Bridge, and Holy Island. The East Coast main train line to Berwick-upon-Tweed is a short drive with journeys to Newcastle or Edinburgh only taking 45 minutes. Regular trains are also available from Dunbar a 20 minute drive up the A1. There is a regular bus service between Coldingham and Eyemouth and Berwick as well as Edinburgh. Coldingham is five minutes off the A1 and within easy reach of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Northumberland, and the Scottish Borders. There are beautiful coastal walks to Berwick, Eyemouth, St Abbs and beyond.
