Mas St. Joseph - Chambre d'Abbe

Set amidst peach orchards, with views of the foothills and distant ridges of Mount Canigou, Mas St. Joseph is a haven of peace. Built in 1790 as the living quarters for the adjacent monastery, the property retains much of its original character but has the added comfort of a Moroccan style courtyard/patio area with swimming pool, perfect for balmy evenings. There is also a BBQ available for guests use. Breakfast is served either on the patio (weather permitting) or in the entrance hall. When the Mas was a monastery, this room was where the abbot slept (well-placed to keep an eye on the monks who slept in dormitories at either end of the house!) The room has a lovely sunny feel to it with stunning views over the peach orchards to Les Aspres, the tree-covered hills to the South. The room contains a comfortable antique double bed and standard TV with satellite channels. Please note the en-suite shower/WC room is very compact and therefore not suitable for larger guests. Guests have access to the swimming pool and adjacent patio where breakfast is served. When the weather is cooler, breakfast is served in the entrance hall. Evening meals can also be provided on request either on the patio or indoors. Both Adrian and Kate are available to offer advice about things to do and places to visit in the area, and also enjoy swapping stories about travel into remote and far flung places. A delightful stroll or bike ride through the orchards takes you to the picturesque town of Ille-sur-Tet. A half-hour drive east takes you to Perpignan and lovely Mediterranean beaches, and to the west lie the majestic Pyrenees. With Cathar country to the north and Spain just an hour's drive south, the region abounds with things to see & do. Mas St. Joseph is easily accessible by vehicle via the dual carriageway from Perpignan to Ille-sur-Tet. Free car parking is available at the property. There are beautiful walks up into the hills, or through the peach orchards, starting directly from the house. Bikes are also available at Mas St. Joseph to explore the area on two wheels. Mas St. Joseph is well served by public transport. A 20 minute walk brings you to Ille-sur-Tet station where for €1 you can take the train or bus into Perpignan or all the way up the Tet Valley to Villefranche-sur-Conflent. We have two small dogs who are very friendly and full of fun.
