Charming restored miller's farmhouse near Utrecht
In a historic setting, surrounded by nature and farms but close to the 4 major dutch cities (less than an hour travel by car or train) you can stay in the former house of the local miller and bakery. You will have the private use of the entire front part of the farm, the farmers house consisting of, on the first floor 2 bedrooms and a bathroom and downstairs a library and living / dining room with a kitchenette . We also have 4 basic bikes available for our guests . The former farmhouse is the last house in a street with other houses called "De Molenbuurt". The garden has an unobstructed view over farm land. Nearby is an official beach at the banks of the river "Lek" and in the vicinity are many hiking trails and various forts of the Dutch waterline, formerly protecting Amsterdam. You can use the large sheltered garden (¼ acre) in front of the house (see photos) where you can also park 2 cars. We live in the former bakery and stables attached to the back of the house. The house has many authentic features such as the so called "up room" with bedstead, beamed ceilings in all rooms and wooden floors. It has been renovated to modern standards and equipped with luxurious bathroom fixtures. The beds are covered with pure linen, there are towels and kitchen towels and in the kitchenette coffee (nespresso), tea and some basic foods are present. And in the morning, on request, a freshly baked bread. You will have the entire upper floor consisting of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom in the house of the former miller's farm (a monument) for your private use. On the ground floor you have the private use of the study and old living room where you will also find a kitchenette with everything you need for breakfast ,lunch or a simple dinner on the 2 burner cooker. There are 2 restaurants and a shop in the village. (+/- 2 km). We respect the privacy of our guests as much as possible but we are always available to help when there are questions. The house is located in the middle of the Dutch waterline a series of forts protecting Amsterdam in the 19th century. This former defense line is nominated to become UN heritage. In a radius of 1.5 km around the house you will find 5 of these forts witch all can be visited. Furthermore, there are various walks through the fields and river banks and a sandy beach and swim lake on a 5 minutes walk. Also canoes can be rented and many bike rides made. The house is not easily reached by public transport. However, at 3 miles by road you will find a train station. If you wish to visit Utrecht or Amsterdam you can park (your car or the bikes) here for free and use the 6 times an hour train service to Utrecht central station (11 minutes) from where trains leave every 15 minutes to all directions. Amsterdam is a small hour by car and also by train (including the ride to the station and the wait for your connection in Utrecht). Please ask if you need any advice. The first farmhouse and mill on this location dates (despite the 1672 over the front door) back to at least 1643. The windmill is demolished in 1918 and the present house of the farm is "only" 230 years old. Therefor doors and beams for people over 1.85 meter (6 feet) can be a little low.
