Retreat to a Zen-like setting in the Trees Slow down and relax in this unique redwood Octagon studio on a working coffee, vanilla and chocolate farm. Private lanai with lush tropical and ocean views and a magnificent Queen of Burma tree right out your door! Watch the stars through the octagonal skylight above the bed. This is the perfect place to meditate, read, write, dance, create and breathe! You are welcome to join in farm activities or simply enjoy your privacy; whatever calls to you! Aloha and welcome to our Zen Treehouse! This redwood octagon-shaped building was originally an art studio and sits among the treetops away from the main house, overlooking lush tropical gardens, stream and meditation hut below. Included in your stay is a complimentary Chocolate Farm Tour (an Airbnb 5-star experience), Hilo Shark's 100% Hawaiian coffee, tea and chocolate grown and produced right here on the farm. There is fresh fruit, bakery goodies and a supply of staples for you to use during your stay and you have plenty of cooking options. Our water is county approved/treated and is sourced from local artesian springs, so drinking from the tap is perfectly ok. There is a 5' in-ground cement pool for refreshing dips. The surrounding trees often drop leaves and flowers into the water which may be skimmed out with the net. Night swimming is permissible but please be mindful of our neighbors and refrain from loud talking or splashing. The private, sheltered bathroom is just around the corner on the covered lanai, surrounded by a bamboo forest and complete with flush toilet, sink and double-head shower massage, plenty of hot water and soft towels. Enjoy nature from your private lanai with comfortable seating, grill, outdoor dining area and a welcoming Zen foot bath after a day of exploring. Yoga or Meditation, anyone? We have yoga mats, blocks, bands and balls as well as cushions, incense, singing bowls, art supplies and reading materials to bring out your inner OM.... WASHER/DRYER There is a shared washer and dryer located under the farmhouse by the covered parking area which is a courtesy for guests staying more than 3 nights. They are older machines and used for many purposes, please leave a donation of $10/load and don't over-use the facilities (2 loads max) or leave laundry sitting for long periods. Please DO NOT arrive with loads of dirty clothes and expect to wash them all when you arrive...your kokua is appreciated! COVID 19 PRECAUTIONS WE PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND REQUIRE MASKS IN ALL COMMON AREAS The Treehouse is completely separate from any other structure and the screened-in doorways allow for clear ocean breezes to flow through the studio. We always meticulously clean and sanitize between guests, and we take additional measures to assure good hygiene. We disinfect with bleach or alcohol based solution to steam-clean all floors and surfaces, rugs and appliances before you arrive. Dishes have been soaked in boiling water mixed with a mild bleach/detergent solution, washed and air dried. Bedding and linens are changed out, frequently updated and always freshly laundered before each arrival. Please leave your washed and rinsed dishes in the dishpan when you leave so we can sanitize them before putting them in the cupboard. The farm and pool areas are for guests only and we ask that you not use the amenities at the same time as others are present (except by members of the same household). Please do not invite or bring visitors onto the property without getting approval from your Host in advance. Mahalo for helping to keep us all healthy! You will have use of the private lanai and entire studio. Parking is limited to 1 space. There is a short walk across a lawn and a slight slope to enter the side lanai (umbrellas are furnished) and a wagon to haul suitcases and groceries. If you have an AWD or 4WD vehicle, you may drive across the lawn and park closer to your entrance. The studio itself has no shared spaces but laundry and pool (located elsewhere) are shared. You are welcome to explore our orchards, meditation hut and stream below the studio. Your hosts live in the farmhouse on-site and there is a terrific tenant who lives in the studio above the garage. Usually someone is around to answer questions and you can always call Ana or Sharkey. We make it a point to be here when you arrive to introduce ourselves and show you the things you'll need to know during your stay. If possible, please plan to arrive while it is still light outside as the Treehouse is removed from the other buildings. Your hosts are up early for farming and retire early, so late arrivals are discouraged unless we discuss it in advance. Papaikou is an historic plantation village located across from the popular Scenic Drive. The 100-year-old farmhouse was built as a plantation manager's home on 2 acres which now are planted in coffee, cacao, vanilla and many other lush tropical plants and fruit trees. We are on a dead-end street in a quiet neighborhood where most of our neighbors have lived for many years and often over generations. We are a short drive from Hilo where there is shopping, restaurants, tourist attractions and a great farmer's market. Headed north, we are 10 minutes from Honomu, the road to Akaka Falls. There you will find Honomu Shark's Coffee shop where our guests are invited to "Feel the Rush" and receive complimentary coffee, tea and lattes during your stay. There is bus service, however a car is recommended. We have limited parking spots on site, so let us know if you will have more than 1 vehicle. It will be a short walk across the grass to the Treehouse. REQUIRED PRIOR TO ARRIVAL: (One or both noted below) *RECENT NEGATIVE TEST RESULTS FOR COVID-19 FROM AN APPROVED TESTING FACILITY ================================================ * AFFIDAVIT CONCERNING COVID-19 VACCINE STATUS (in the event current negative test results are not available) If you are not able to provide us with a recent, valid Negative Covid-19 Test result from an approved facility, you will be required to sign a legally-binding Traveler Affidavit prior to check-in.
