Sri Mathie: An Historic Estate (Listing 2)
Sri Mathie plantation, built in 1910 is furnished with family antiques and historic art works. In a forested area, it is five minutes from the sea, 20 minutes from Galle Fort. Sri Mathie is a working estate with coconuts, rubber, mangoes, cinnamon and pepper. We grow vegetables and chickens provide eggs and cows give fresh milk. A breakfast is included, dinner on request. Mary is a retired art historian/archaeologist. She has a deep knowledge of South Asian history and religious traditions. Her 2000 volume library is available for your pleasure. Mary and Guy live on one floor of our large house, guests are in a separate wing or guest cottage. We are surrounded by forest and rice paddy fields, but only a short 25 minute drive through beautiful scenery to reach Galle and Galle Fort. We are close to surfing beaches. TukTuks (motorized rickshaws) are easily available in our area. We provide guests with free beach transport. We also provide bicycles for guests. We are registered with Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority as well as holding local licenses and permits. We welcome all guests and appreciate the ethnic and cultural diversity of our world.
