Mirembe Cottage: 45 acres of peace (Dinner Option)

Mirembe is a Ugandan word meaning peace and tranquillity; this perfectly describes our 45 acre property. The cottage is privately set on the edge of our forest: Sit on the verandah watching the kangaroos, search the trees for koalas; at night look to the sky to see the million stars, fireflies in the creek or into the firepit flames. Take a stroll through our private trails:Nature surrounds you. NO KIDS (sorry) Breakfast food supplied. Cooked dinner is an optional extra. Check @mirembe_cottage The Cottage was completed in April 2018 on a private section of our property, some distance (65 m) from and out of sight (and earshot) of the main house. There are louvred windows throughout which add to the ambience, a brand new lounge to relax on, and comfortable seating on the front and rear decks which allow you to soak up the tranquillity of the property. Or laze by the pool ( solar heated) or in a hammock and watch the clouds drift past. NO KIDS (sorry) The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen with stone bench tops (from Norway), red gum floors, a gas fireplace, ceiling fans, ducted air conditioning, satellite and on-demand TV, a DVD player and WiFi. In the bathroom you can gaze out into the forest whilst you shower; maybe even spot a koala. There is a ready to light firepit just outside your bedroom window (and marshmallows in the pantry). You'll find provisions for whatever type of breakfast takes your mood on the morning. Bacon and eggs, pancakes, and or home-made bread and jam are hard to pass up - you decide! Relax and enjoy your start to the day. Being secluded, the nights are really dark, and the sky is bright with stars. And it's really really quiet, apart from the night noises of the forest outside your bedroom - you may hear the koalas, they're usually around although easier to hear than spot. Catching a glimpse of the platypus in the main creek is a little trickier. If you really want to leave the property :-) the Eumundi markets are a 8 minute drive away, Sunshine Beach 20 minutes, Noosa Main Beach 25 minutes, and Verrierdale Hall (where the Full Moon dances are held) just 1.3 km away. Mirembe is also the perfect wedding venue. Access to the Cottage is via a gravel driveway with hard stand for your vehicle right alongside the entrance steps. You have use of the pool with your own entrance, and are free to roam anywhere on the property. Don't be shy of wandering past the house! There is an extensive network of trails in our forest, approximately 3km, and many trees are tagged - so far we have identified about 120 different species of rainforest trees; the diversity is amazing. There is a newly-built picnic shelter in a clearing in the forest, about 300m from the cottage, where you can relax with a glass of wine and talk to the trees. For the more adventurous, the property adjoins the Eumundi Conservation Reserve where there are longer forest walks on marked trails. We live on the property, out of direct sight and hearing, about 65 metres from the Cottage. We are happy to chat or to leave you alone; your privacy is assured. If you would like a short guided tour of some of the old growth trees on the property, Phil will be happy to provide it. There are also some craft activities or honey harvesting (seasonal) available for a small fee. If you are unable to walk far, we can give you a tour of the property and the forest trails in our golf buggy. Verrierdale is between Noosa and Eumundi on the Sunshine Coast. Timber felling was a major industry after European settlement, with cleared land being opened up for farming in the early 20th century. Verrierdale was named in honour of David George Verrier, a selector who had settled here in the early 1900s. Today there is some cattle, farming and horses, but generally, Verrierdale is left to its own devices, and grows with the natural flow of community living. The Verrierdale Full Moon dance (held a few times a year) is just up the road - about a kilometre. You need your own transport. Our property encompasses a 400 m frontage to Upper Yandina Ck which is a very special habitat for the original flora and fauna of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, one of the few preserved. We have identified and tagged over 120 species of rainforest trees on our property, including some outstanding old growth trees. If you would like a short (free) guided tour, we would be delighted to show you what's out there. Also for the adjoining Eumundi Conservation Reserve - you can explore that on your own directly from our property, but we can guide you and point out things of interest, if that takes your fancy. In the spring we run free guided wildflower tours in the forest, for the local community. If you are lucky, you may get a chance to extract your own jar of honey (for a small cost). Or do one of the other in-house activities. Check out more pictures on @Mirembe_Cottage Verrierdale As we are in a rural setting, many of our guests prefer to eat in, and we now offer a range of prepared evening meals for a small additional fee (cash). Phil will surprise you with some specialty Indian, Indonesian and Malaysian dishes (he has been cooking curries for 35 years). We also offer a range of out-of-the-ordinary casseroles and a fish dish or two. All you need to do is re-heat (mostly) when you are ready. The menu is presented in the final photo. Three days notice is required, and generally only one 2-course dinner per booking.
