If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing time to unwind from everyday stress then this is the place for you! Equally, if you are looking for activities or places to visit then La Varache is an excellent base from where to explore the surrounding countryside and attraction The accommodation in the two well equipped and furnished Gites at La Varache caters for up to 13 people and is set in 45 acres of pasture and woodland surrounded by forestry land. The river Vienne runs alongside the property and is excellent for fishing. La Varache offers two self-catering holiday homes (gites). They have both been tastefully converted from a 15th century house incorporating many modern facilities along side original old world beams and log fireplaces. Cottage (Gite) One accommodates up to 6 people and Cottage (Gite) Two sleeps up to 7. There are Bar-B-Q areas for those who want to cook out at the same time enjoying a glass or two of wine while watching the sun go down. The gites can be divided in two and rented on a separate basis or booked together as one large cottage (gite). Both gites have full central heating for all year round letting. There is “Sky TV free to air” in both lounges and Wi-Fi internet access Both decks face west and are a delightful for evening soirees. Our own home is also located at La Varache. We are there on hand for you if you need us, but are also located far enough away from the gites that you will not know that we are there. The local village of Eymoutiers has a produce market every Saturday (as well as 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month) where you can wander by the many stalls to purchase a variety of delicious local cheeses and homegrown produce. Don't worry about parking. Eymoutiers hasn't yet heard of pay car parks or meters! There is also a supermarket, banks, hardware store, restaurants, etc. If you are looking for some shopping or a bit of the city life, Limoges is only a 30-minute drive from La Varache. This ancient roman cathedral city, which is famous for its porcelain, offers plenty of activities including several historical sites. There are two fresh water beaches close by: Lac de Vassiviere and even closer (10 kms) at Chateauneuf la Foret. Lac de Vassivière or Vassivière Lake, one of France's largest artificial lakes, is a large man-made reservoir of about 10 square kilometres. It is situated on the Plateau de Millevaches in the départements of Creuse and Haute-Vienne. La Varache is located 6 kms from the local market town of Eymoutiers. There is a train station in Eymoutiers, but a vehicle is advised for a stay with us to explore the local area. There is also a taxi service in Eymoutiers, but must be reserved in advance. The commune of Eymoutiers charges a local tax of .50/per person/per night for all people over 18 years old.
