SYROS Abela Best Beach Studio Apartment 1

Abela Studio Apartment 1 is a comfortable, relaxing place to stay with a balcony view down to the beautiful swimming beach a short walk down the olive-lined country road. It is right on the beach, which has the best taverna in Syros. Abela on Syros is near the town of Megas Gialos which has a great small store for essentials. Abela Studio Apartment 1 has a recently updated small but well-stocked kitchen, sleeps 2 comfortably and there is free wireless internet and a flat-screen TV! This charming self contained studio apartment (room to let in Greece) sleeps 2 comfortably with new comfortable mattresses and pillows in Jun 2017. It has a self-contained fully stocked kitchenette and private bathroom with shower. At the entrance is a private marble patio with a patio table and seating. There is a beautiful small balcony with a sea view where you can sip your morning coffee and it is two minutes walk along a flat country road to the safe swimming beach. You can hear the waves at night as you drift into sleep. The studio is in a charming Greek style two story building that includes two additional studio apartments (also listed in AirBnB), perfect to combine with friends and family. The studios are at the bottom of a small hillside, terraced with marble patios and dripping with bougainvillea, and Villa Abela (also available to rent through AirBNB) sits at the top of this hill (with separate entrance and separate patios). It is just steps to a beautiful safe swimming beach, where you can relax in the sparkling Aegean sea, you'll have access to marble terraces dripping in bougainvillea with palm leaves shading you from the Greek sun. You'll also find modern amenities like air conditioning for your serenity and comfort. Just a minute walk, across from the beach, is an authentic Greek Taverna - quiet and perfect for lunch and dinner during your stay. NOTE SYROS IS NOT SANTORINI - AIRBNB HAS A GLITCH WITH THEIR MAP :) Abela is quiet and is not a party town. If partying is your thing, you can drive or bus over to the nearby towns of Poisodonia or Megas gialos. From the minute you arrive, you'll find everything you need and our local manager Arja, who speaks Dutch, Greek, and English, is close by in case you might need anything. There is free Wifi and if you need anything I have Greek and English speaking managers Arja and Georgos close by who will take care of you. The apartment is private. I live in the US but my English and Greek speaking manager lives close by should you need anything during your stay! I'm available via phone, text, and email. Abela is a quiet small beachside village tucked away off the main road, centered around a lovely small swimming beach that is a bit of a local secret. There is a scrumptious farm to table slow food taverna right on the beach that is excellent for meals - open at 12 and closes when everyone leaves. This is a quiet area, perfect for a relaxing beach vacation. If you're comfortable driving in Greece, you may want to rent a car before you arrive so you can explore the other beaches and attractions on Syros and easily shop for groceries etc at one of the several supermarkets on the island. There is plenty of parking at the villa and studios for your rental car. Otherwise, the local "round island bus" stops just a ten minute walk away - ideal for a quick and lively journey to the main town of Ermoupolis or any of the stops around the island. The nearest store is about a 15-20 minute walk in Megas Gialos but the best supermarkets are in Ermoupolis, Galissas or Finikas. Wander the hills around Abela and gather wild herbs or capers, chat with locals, explore deserted beaches or travel to Kini or Finikas to hang out with the beach scene. There is a lot to do on Syros and Villa Abela is the perfect spot to start. HOW TO GET HERE Via Passenger Ferry There are departures from Piraeus several times a day. You need to buy a ticket before you get on the ferry from a travel agent or ferry office (this ensures ferries are not overcrowded). We recommend arriving at least an hour before the sailing to get a good seat as most sailings do not have reserved seating. There are older ferries and fast catamarans. The older ferries takes about four hours and offer the advantage of open upper decks so you can get wonderful views during your trip. They are also cheaper than the fast ferries. The high speed or fast ferries are more comfortable, newer, and take only two hours. Note that they do not have outer decks, so you cannot enjoy the views quite as well. Ferries for Syros leave from Piraeus, the port of Athens. It is easy and fun! From Athens airport follow the signs to the Trains which is across the street – they only take cash for the tickets and the only ATM is at the airport so get cash first. Get a one way or return ticket to Piraeus. The station is Track 2. You can download a map of the metro here (URL HIDDEN) Follow the blue line. You will need to change at Monastiraki – one you get off the train there the signs to the Pareus track are clearly posted. When you get off the train at Pareus exit through the left exit this takes you straight to the escalator and the overhead walkway so you avoid the busy street. You may need to pick up your ferry ticket here so look for the office on the wharf – Blue Star Ferries if that is the ferry line you have booked. I get my ticket in advance and you can book here – let them know you want the fast ferry and I like to go business class that way you are guaranteed a seat. Look here for ferries (URL HIDDEN) You can also catch a cab, but make sure the cab is on the meter and the meter is on fare 1 not 2 (which is for night from midnight to 5am) Via Airport From Athens International Airport, you can be at Syros Island in 30 minutes by air. Flights schedules change frequently so check often. You can find flights on many of the main online travel sites, including (URL HIDDEN) the airport code for syros is JSY. It is very convenient if you can arrange your international flight to arrive approximately two hours or more before the Syros flight, you then have plenty of time to clear customs and check in for your Syros flight, and will easily and quickly arrive on the island. Note that checking in can seem a little different - there are really no lines- don panic - just wait for your island to be called then politely work your way to the front of the group. You may need to loudly indicate your island to get to the counter. Car Ferry Driving in Athens is chaotic so we recommend that you rent a car on Syros instead of in town. Rates are comparable and you save the price of the car on the ferry. Car Rentals A rental car is an ideal way to explore Syros. There is also a round island bus, which stops approximately ten minutes walk from the villa. If you want to explore the island it is a great idea to get a scooter or a small car. I recommend Galissas Car Rental and they will deliver to the car or plane for no fee. Their information is in the Guest Book which is available when you book. There is also a great around island bus and a free bus that takes you to Ermoupoli the main town from a free parking area. Makes it easy as Ermoupoli is a typical small bustling town with narrow one way streets, cafes sprawling on side walks, and general colorful, friendly, fun hustle and bustle!
