The Studio at The Old Reading Room, Helford River

The Studio is self-contained accommodation that has been lovingly renovated from an old threshing barn by my partner Sam and I. It's got all mod-cons (think underfloor heating, speedy internet and a powerful shower) in a building full of history (WWII soldiers were stationed here before the D-Day landings and it has acted as a community hub from the 1880s). Particularly suitable for walkers, artists, music lovers, and solace seekers. Bring your vinyl for our record player, your boots for walking, your tastebuds for the amazing local produce, and your camera to take pictures of all the wonderful things you'll see in this lovely pocket of West Cornwall. The Studio is (as to be expected) a spacious studio apartment with a luxurious double bed, en suite bathroom, kitchenette, dining area, comfy sofa and TV with Firestick. Located in the middle of a quiet and safe little village you'll be able to get peace while also being close to pubs, shops and beaches. Bathroom: Powerful shower, loo and basin. We provide bamboo loo paper from "Who Gives a Crap" (an ethical plastic free loo paper brand). For the time being we will not be providing shampoos, conditioners and body wash as a result of Airbnb guidance. We will however provide anti-bacterial handwash. Sleeping Area: Cast Iron double bed with luxurious sheets from Linen Bundle and all-season duck feather and down duvet (4.5 tog, 10.5 tog, or 15 tog) . Both side tables come with a double plug socket and reading lamp. Kitchenette: Suitable for making good simple meals with a combination microwave grill, two ring induction hob (and compatible pots and pans), slow cooker, toaster, kettle, sink, fridge with freezer compartment, and crockery, cutlery and glassware (including champagne flutes) for four people, with a dining table and chairs. Living Room Area: book case full of books about art, history, boats and more. Games including monopoly and a puzzle. TV with Firestick so you can log into your own Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. accounts. Comfy sofa and antique chest coffee table and Record player with a small selection of our own records. The walls are adorned with prints from local artists. Outside Space: Table and chairs for two to sit and enjoy the afternoon and evening sun. You are welcome to herbs from our vegetable patch and in times of abundance some vegetables too. A little note, we are in the countryside and as with all rural villages noisy tractors can drive past from time to time. Co2 Alarm - Our electricity and heating is provided by an eco-friendly air source heat pump and we have no gas on the property so don’t require a Co2 Alarm. Parking is on street. There is one small step up to get into the studio but it is entirely flat within. We live above the studio so will be available if needed throughout your stay. I’m the middle of the ancient village of Mawnan Smith. Head south for the Helford river (the most beautiful place in Cornwall) and north east for Falmouth (the coolest town around). Helford River: 1.3 miles Maenporth Beach: 0.6 miles Falmouth Town: 4 miles Amazing walks around the village will take you through woods, fields, beaches, sea swept cliffs and meandering river paths. There's a bus to take you into Falmouth and lots of space for parking on street. COVID-19 Update: We take your health and safety extremely seriously and so will have at least 24 hrs between each booking and will be cleaning everything following guidance produced by Airbnb.
