A lovely white wall plastered private room in a 14th century townhouse, with a comfortable 140 cm wide double bed, writing desk and armoire; access to shower room/toilet, living room with wood stove, kitchen with cooking piano and terrasse (the latter all shared) Our property - in this beautiful part of Cathar country - is actually 2 houses with their own shared outdoor terrasse, perfect for "al fresco dining". The part we live in is a Maison de Maitre (referred to as Number 10) where you will not be staying, but you will walk through it to get in to the Bridge House where you will stay in "The Blue Room" upstairs. We have also provided a separate private entrance to the Bridge House from the small alley at the rear(but this is still being finished). Joe and Laury are currently still renovating Number 10 which provides the main entrance to both houses and faces the main market square of Chalabre. We have a cat and two dogs, so cannot host guests with pet allergies as they come and go throughout the main spaces. One takes the main staircase through Number 10 to access the next house which is where you will stay. We call this one the Bridge House because there is a covered bridge which crosses over a small inner court yard which separates the two houses. This is a 14th century house which has just been renovated. Attached to that is actually the former part ruin of yet another house with its original stone facade still standing so it serves as a private terrace, shared by you and by us at Number 10. There is a shared staircase to access the Bridge House. Once inside it has two levels. There is no lift/elevator. In the Bridge House there is a wonderful, fully equipped kitchen with enough space to eat-in for 4-5 people and a big living room area upstairs with a table that can seat up to 10 if both table leaves are used. There are two double bedrooms also upstairs with a spiral staircase to a small open mezzanine which has a single mattress (open to the living room below - so not suitable for someone needing to go to sleep early). There is another loft (with no banister) on the other side with a single bed, accessed by a very steep ladder. Recommended only for a single person - and only those who are old enough and responsible enough to be aware not to fall off the unprotected ledge of the loft. There is a shared bathroom with a shower in the upstairs area, which can be used by any sleeping in the two bedrooms or mezzanine. Downstairs, "The Romantic Room" is off the kitchen and connects to the Romantic bathroom which has a luxurious claw foot tub with instant hot water. This is a large en-suite room. There is an additional 3rd bathroom with shower by the entrance to the Bridge house which can also be used (its use is however to be shared with anyone staying in the main house). Because some areas of the terrace are still under renovation the property is not suitable for small children unless parents can supervise non-stop. See The Space area of this listing. You can also access the library in the main (Number 10) house, and if you are interested we can organise table d'hote meals for you (simple, nutritious cooked dinner or lunch or breakfast) Feel free to ask us for advice / recommendations / items that make outings better (cooler bag / beach towels in summer), etc! We can also do stuff like pick up bread for you on the day you arrive (just reimburse us), feed you if you need meals for a very reasonable set cost, and so on. The medieval village of Chalabre is truly lovely and surrounded by a variety of amazing places. From hiking / cycling / riding trails, to nearby Cathar castles, to the ski slopes of Mont d’Olmes, to swimming in the gorgeous Lake Montbél, just 4km from our house. (We recommend swim shoes if you have sensitive feet as the lake shore varies from pebbly to sticky clay.) You need a car or motorbike or bicycle to get around (unless you have arrived on foot with a backpack!). Parking is free all around the village (the market square is only off-limits to parking on Saturday morning to allow market stall holders and visitors full access). - Check-in can be flexible. You may check-in earlier than 3 pm to drop off your bags but the room may not be ready until 3pm, depending on bookings. - Both butchers are closed on Mondays and the bakery is closed on Wednesdays - We can provide video / sculpture master classes and simple, nutritious, cooked meals on request - Swim shoes are recommended if your feet are sensitive and plan to swim in the fabulous Lac Montbel (just 4 km from our house!) - Firewood and fire lighters have a cost - please tellus what you have used and we will charge you the at-cost fee
