Old Stables, hidden period gem, spectacular garden
Hillside Stables is a separate annexed building, to the main house, a hidden period gem with spectacular gardens. This Grade II listed home and family house, dates back to 1715 with some extensions c.1820. The owners have recently renovated the separate old stables building to build a mezzanine king-sized bed deck and shower room in this completely separate private annex with its own entrance. The Stables overlook the large and established formal gardens in circa 0.402 of an acre, as well as a beautiful yew tree believed to be c.500-600 years old, among others. The Old Stables is a modern renovation of the home's stables that are believed to pre-war time, have hosted groomsmen and their horses, when they visited the neighbouring local hostelery, the Post Office Tavern. When prisoners were being transported across the country, they were housed in the small jail across the road, which you can still see across from our gate today. Post war the Stables was known to locals as the Gardener's Cottage. You will be welcome to use the orchard garden, which captures the afternoon and evening sun. It can only be used until 7pm and only by our guests at the Stables. We have lovely neighbours in the nearby cottages and it's important to us to keep noise to an absolute minimum in this tranquil area. You may also be offered a space in a gated off street car parking area on request and if available. Hillside is by a main road, though high walls in situ, so additional parking outside the building should also be possible provided it is secured at less busy commuting times. A sofa bed, children’s fold out bed or cotbed may also be available for a short period of time, if desired, subject to discussion over availability, costs etc. A basket of childrens toys and books can also be provided on request, as can baby/ toddler items if we have them. The Old Stables is a completely separate annexed building in the grounds of the old Grade 2 listed house. As it is a separate building, it will be provided entirely for your own sole use during your stay. The listing price includes the luxurious Vispring king sized bed on the mezzanine bed deck (please see photos - this is a bed deck not a bedroom). Should you wish to make use of the sofa bed or to have a cotbed or toddler bed brought up, then extra charges may apply. While toddlers are welcome, please be aware they will need to be supervised as there are various staircases as you can see in the photos. Babes in arms and older children should hopefully require less patrolling. If the sofabed is used, then the amount of space in the living area will obviously be restricted as you can see in the photos. It isn't a huge space and there are no doors between the sofabed area and the mezzanine bed deck. As it is all open plan and compact, it is usually best suited to parents and children or the like. Expect a warm (socially distanced) welcome from the family hosts who live in the separate main house. We are happy to share our phone number and email address for you to ask any questions! The old Stables is by a main road and is only a few minutes’ walk downhill to the endearing small village of Westbury on Trym, with its shops, takeaways, restaurants and pubs catering for all tastes. Westbury Hill is also on the cusp of Durdham Downs, Badocks Woods and Blaise Estate with plenty of space to run or explore. The Old Stables is a completely annexed building from the main house, enabling private use for our listed guests, should you wish to self-isolate or just have your own space while staying away from home. There is ease of access from Hillside Old Stables to bus routes and arterial roads serving the commercial Bristol City Centre, as well as the large American style Mall and retail park at Cribbs Causeway. It is also close to motorway networks M4 and M5. Hillside Old Stables is a short journey away from: - Southmead Hospital (and a gentle bus ride to the Spire Hospital Bristol, Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), Bristol Dental Hospital and Bristol Eye Hospital). - Large local businesses such as Airbus, MOD Abbey Wood, Aztec West, the BBC and Avonmouth. - The University of Bristol (and the University of the West of England isn't too far). It is a great choice for families visiting or dropping students off to the local University Halls of Residence, Badock Hall, Hiatt Baker Hall, Wills Hall, Durdham Hall and Churchill Hall. - Badminton School (and Red Maids). We're a short walk from the school, for anyone visiting or dropping off boarding students. - The Mall & Retail Park at Cribbs Causeway - we often have guests staying who fancy a trip to the Mall for a spot of shopping, followed by a nice stay and meal out locally.
