LA PIGEONNIERRE romantic retreat heated pool
Situated in a tiny hamlet in the heart of the Dordogne this idyllic pigeonnierre sleeps two with its own heated, private pool and a covered terrace. Fully equipped kitchen, wifi, walkin shower, bbq, countryside views. A truly romantic hideaway. The Pigeonnierre is on two floors. Outside wooden decking surrounds the 10m swimming pool with a covered seating area for reading, eating and relaxing. On the ground floor you have a fully equipped open plan kitchen, with a dining area that seats four. To the side of this you have a wc with walk in shower and natural stone flooring from a local quarry throughout. A short stairway leads up to the calm double bedroom overlooking fields and oak woods. You will have access to - private parking, your own garden, the pool and covered terrace with long low sofas. There are a couple of bikes you can use to nip up to get your morning croissants if you fancy. Sofia is more than happy to help and advise on restaurants, local attractions, good markets, walks, horse riding, local vineyards, live music, magic spots for picnic lunches. She speaks English and French and some Spanish and lives in the main house all year round. Situated in the heart of rural South West France you'll find classic French villages, gorgeous walks, cycling, canoeing and horse riding on unmade up roads with only the odd tractor trundling by. Aubeterre Sur Dronne is wonderful, with its Monolithic church it is on the Camino de Santiago de Compastello, it has a typically busy pretty square with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. An hour and a halfs drive from Bordeaux and only an hour from Bergerac Airports. The nearest train station is Chalais (20 mins away) and we happy to come and collect you. Lamilou is 2 kms from the village of St Antoine Cumond - direction St Aulaye. Type La Peyriere, 24110 into your sat nav and you will find us! LA MILOU La Milou was a ruin, previously owned and loved by Monsieur and Madame Moreau for years, sadly left empty for over eighty , having never, ever had water or electricity, I bought it in 2013 and started to bring her back to life using as many reclaimed materials as we could find in and around the house and garden. Situated in the Dronne Valley with the truely wonderful River Dronne just 3km away, a great river beach, beach bar, canoeing, tennis courts, big picnic area. Up the hill is Aubeterre which has been called one of the prettiest villages in France and rightly so. There is the best butcher ever, great Sunday market, happy hour from 7 to 8 at the Hotel de France on a friday often with live music. Tiny St Antoine Cumond does have a baker which doubles as the Tabac. The Relais 24 is a great little bar/ restaurant run by Lolo and Veronique, sunday lunches are long and delicious, but Thursday night is moules night best to book as it has become a favourite spot. Riberac is only 15km away, honestly has the best food market on a friday, cafe Colonne is the place to sit and be seen, every Tuesday night throughout the summer they close the road for live music, hundreds arrive to have supper outside and dance the night away. Chalais is a ten minute drive north, a monday market, a train station. You could be in Bordeaux in under an hour for less than 15 euros. The Chateau Mareuil is owned by the Duke and Duchess Montabello, some of the chateau is in ruins however what remains is lived in and the very delightful owners a truely wonderful couple do the guided tours which as you can imagine is magical. Lac La Jamaye is twenty minutes drive away, great for swimming, picnics, safe beach, pedalos and plenty of shade under the pine trees with an easy hour long walk all the way around. Finally the sunrises and sunsets in this area are breath taking so dust off the camera.
