Le Chai, Chateau de Charras, Family Friendly
A historic wine warehouse to the Chateau de Charras, La Le Chai is set in acres of parkland with use of an enclosed pool, tennis court, and ping pong table. We have a private terrasse with truly breathtaking views of the gardens and the picturesque countryside beyond. Newly re-furbished, it is our family holiday home enjoyed by all the generations for different reasons - walking, swimming, running about, den building, exploring. The gardens are large enough for all ages! The grounds of the chateau are fully enclosed making it a safe environment for children to roam about on those sunny days, although a lot of time will be taken up playing with the other kids. There are often other guests at the chateau, and some residents. Most are English speaking. Children roam and form groups for playing and we've often had impromptu drinks in the orchard or BBQs where everyone brings their own. Equally, you can keep yourself to yourself, with very few guests venturing past the terrasse. Guests have private access to the entire house plus there is an adjoining storage with bbq and coals. Plus guests The property is managed locally and the property manager is both accessible and available. Chateau de Charras is located within the sleepy countryside village of Charras. Charras is a typical quiet French village with small Vival supermarket/post office, a surprisingly good boulangerie and more recently a bar/restaurant. All within a minutes’ walk of the chateau. Restaurants and activities are listed in the manual, but our favourites include a day at Aubeterre sur Dronne for swimming and canoeing, and Brantome for the market. The local repas are not to be missed for fabulous local food in the evening. As Charras is very much a rural village you will need a car and a bike is a super way of seeing the local countryside. We often bring the road bikes down as the roads are quiet and in super condition. There is public transport but it is limited. The house is a good size, and has a wonderful terrasse with fantastic views of the Charente countryside and the Chateau grounds with chairs and table for sunbathing and dining outside. But the thing that makes this holiday house stand out are the grounds of Chateau de Charras: extensive lawns for the kids to run around on, a very pleasant gated and heated outdoor pool, a historic church and of course the chateau itself. Special features within the Chateau Grounds > Shared swimming pool: Large heated outdoor pool, 5m wide x 15m long. > Tree-lined avenues > Recently refurbished full tennis court > Outdoor table tennis > Picnic area
