A golfer? Whether you are looking for links, heathland, parkland or moorland, there are courses to suit every ability and budget, including hidden gems like the two Gailes courses, Glasgow and Western, as well as Kilmarnock Barassie at Troon or Dundonald. Ayrshire is home to an array of magnificent castles from Dean in Kilmarnock; Dundonald and Portencross to Culzean. This charming region is also scattered with intriguing historic buildings and homes like The Bachelor's Club, Dumfries House and Souter Johnnie's Cottage. The region is awash with fascinating tributes to the life and work of Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns. Dumfries House near Cumnock (approx. 30 mins drive from Kilmarnock), is one of Britain's most beautiful stately homes and best kept heritage secrets. Saved by the intervention of HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007, Dumfries House combines the architecture of Robert Adam with the furniture of Thomas Chippendale and leading 18th century Scottish cabinet makers. The estate (including the newly renovated walled garden) is well worth a visit (no charge for entry to the estate but there is for a tour around the House). Please get in touch if there is anything you want to ask. I look forward to welcoming you and hope you enjoy your visit. When possible collection from Glasgow Prestwick Airport or Kilmarnock Railway Station can be arranged. If requested I can quote a charge to collect from Glasgow International Airport, Glasgow Queen Street Railway Station or Glasgow Central Railway Station. We are a 20 minutes' drive from Glasgow Prestwick Airport and 40 minutes' drive from Glasgow Airport. A ferry link runs between Cairnryan, near Stranraer to Northern Ireland. There are bus stops outside the house for journeys to Glasgow and Troon. The beach at Troon is particularly picturesque. Cycling is popular in the area including the Kilmarnock and Irvine Loop (23 miles route).
