Lords Mill, Caldbeck Village, North Lakes
Tastfully renovated 16th century riverside mill cottage, in the lovely north lakes village of Caldbeck. Ideal location for accessing the northern fells, with plenty of walking and pubs and coffee shops on the doorstep and Carlisle and Keswick under 30 mins drive. Full of original features. Views onto and access down to the stream below. Well suited for families or groups holidaying together, with a spacious modern kitchen, two lounges and four good sized bedrooms. Stable for bicycle storage. A real gem of a cottage, converted from an old mill building and its attached cottage, with lots of original features including the mill machinery and the mill wheel in the main lounge. Both lounges have good sized TV's and the main lounge has seating for up to 10 and a wood burning stove. The kitchen/diner is spacious and has fridge, dishwasher, microwave, oven, induction hob, nespresso coffee machine. A stable leads off the main lounge, with a door to the outside - and houses an additional fridge and the freezer, as well as being an ideal place to store bicycles. A small garden and terrace can be accessed from the front door and the main lounge. The ground floor has an entrance hall, leading onto the kitchen/diner, the main lounge, the 2nd lounge and the downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs, the four bedrooms are well spaced along a spacious T shaped landing with the two bathrooms at either end of the landing. A fifth bedroom is locked containing the owners belongings and there is a lockable linen cupboard, but all other areas of the cottage are free to use. The cleaner/housekeeper lives in a neighbouring village. Caldbeck has a village pub, serving food, a village shop/post office, two coffee shops and 2-3 handicrafts shops, centred on Priest's mill. There are good walks from the village to nearby Hesket Newmarket (2-3 miles), with its own pub and coffee shop and up-river (1-2 miles) from behind the cottage. The fells of High Pike, Carrick, Skiddaw and Blencathra are all scalable with a 15-20 mins drive. Keswick and Ullswater are around 30 mins drive away. We love that the Northern Fells don't get too busy even on Bank Holidays. There is one parking space next to the cottage and a village car park (100 yards away). The river next to the garden can be fast flowing and the garden walls are low with a drop down to the river. Care should be taken whilst in the garden and small children must be supervised at all times. There is one parking space next to the cottage and another on the village green (50 yards away), also a village car park (100 yards away). One double bedroom has restricted height sloping ceilings. One bathroom has a bath with handheld shower the other has a shower cubicle.
