Ukamirra - bush setting, magical views
Our lovely stone cottage is set on 6 acres of secluded native Australian bushland. The stone cottage is positioned on top of the hill in the heart of Chewton Bushlands and provides amazing views across to Mount Macedon and Mount Franklin. Enjoy your days and evenings looking out to the view. During summer spend the evenings enjoying the stars eating a BBQ dinner at the outdoor setting and in winter on those cold nights snug up in the front of fire or toast marshmallows over the fire pit. Ukamirra is "off the grid" with solar power, tank water and gas hot-water (like most properties in Chewton Bushlands). The cottage is made of local stone and is set on a large platform featuring native Australian plants. There are two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. A comfy lounge and separate kitchen/dining area. We share our property with the local wildlife, so you can expect kangaroos and many native birds on the property. This is a gorgeous, private and quiet place to relax and unwind. During summer the house stays relatively cool given the stone construction and each room is provided a pedestal fan. There is an old oak tree on the platform that provided the perfect spot to take shelter from the sun for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All doors and windows have fly screens. During winter months there is plenty of wood to keep the fire boxs burning and you can enjoy star gazing sitting around the fire pit. The solar system has an automatic backup generator (sound proofed and away from the house) so there is no concern about running short of power on those cloudy days. Internet, TV, fridge, oven (gas), BBQ (gas), bathroom with shower (no bath tub), wood burner (living room), wood burner (kitchen), indoor (6 seater indoor dining table) and outdoor dining (6 seat outdoor setting). Given we are off the grid and on tank water, guests are required to supply their own bed linen (i.e., fitted sheet, doona cover, pillow cases) and towels. There are pillows and queen size bed duvets on each be along with tea towels and hand towels.. We don't live on site, however we will be contactable on mobile to deal with any problems. Castlemaine and Chewton are 10 minutes drive away with lots of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and boutique stores with plenty to see and do. A great area for bushwalking and a bit of outdoor activities. There is always the Saturday market in Chewton and lots of other local markets on throughout the year in different areas. A car is required and there is about 3km of public dirt road to get to the cottage. We are in the bush so you are likely to find native animals such as kangaroos in the garden and sometimes the odd insect has made it's way inside (a fact of living in the bush). During summer one of our favourite things to do is take our swimming "noodles" (provided for guests) and float around the Golden Point Reserve, a popular man made lake frequented by locals and visitors 7 minutes from the house. It's not uncommon to be swimming with ducklings! COVID - we take the safety of our guests seriously and have introduced enhanced cleaning measures so you can feel assured during your stay.
