Classic 1950’s 4-season cottage in the historic Village of South Lancaster nestled along the shores of beautiful Lake Saint Francis. Great fit for singles, gal pals, or couples. A short stroll through this quaint hamlet will bring you to the public wharf to watch the merchant ships, go fishing, kayaking and to easily launch your boat. Cycling & hiking trails/snowshoeing/CC skiing are all close by. Birding is a favourite in the area & Provincial sandy beaches are just a few minutes down the road This tiny cottage is 450 square feet (41 sq meters) so a small space that sits on a lovely double village lot so there is plenty of green space to enjoy with an outdoor fire pit and charcoal barbecue. There is a new, super comfy memory foam mattress and dresser in the bedroom with a small closet. The kitchen, dining and living rooms are all one open room. The bathroom has a bathtub and shower combination with plenty of hot water. The cottage is older so not "boutique renovated" but rather an authentic 1950's style home, humble, very clean, comfortable and has all the amenities you need for an enjoyable stay including crisp cotton sheets and towels. (Website hidden by Airbnb) You will find a smart TV in the bedroom where you are able to stream your own streaming subscriptions and but you require your own account to access and hardware if necessary. As well, there is a DVD player with a wide variety of movies for you to choose from. Unlimited WIFI is available to my guests. Please note: Our wireless network is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied. We do not warrant that access to our wireless network will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free at all times or will meet your requirements. We are not responsible for the security, integrity, accuracy or completeness of any information that you transmit or receive while using our wireless network. The wireless network is provided to you at our discretion. Your access may be blocked, suspended or terminated for any reason. This property is entirely non smoking therefore I only let to non-smokers. Please note:This is a village experience and the cottage is a few short blocks from the water but there is no sandy beach in the village. Some do swim from the wharf and at the bottom of Calvin Street. There are two provincial parks within a 10 minute drive with lovely sand beaches (Website hidden by Airbnb) Also, because we are near the water and in a very natural setting, it is impossible to keep every bug completely at bay but I try, so you may encounter the ‘occasional’ roaming rascal. Not to scare you off, but If you are “extremely “squeamish about this, it may not be a good fit for you. Honestly, not much of an issue at all but thought I should mention. There is a small shed for bike storage. The Village of South Lancaster is very quaint and walkable. Only a short stroll away you'll find the public wharf for lounging, fishing, and launching your kayak. From the wharf, on a clear day, there are beautiful views of the Adirondacks of Northern New York. Please note that there is no sand beach in the village. People do swim at the wharf but It can be a bit weedy especially after mid July. There is another spot where you can swim more comfortably at the end of Calvin Street but bring water shoes as it rocky. If you prefer sandy beaches, there are two Provincial parks within a 10 minute drive (Charlottenburg and Glengarry Park). You are always welcome to sit at the wharf and watch the tankers go by and enjoy the scenery and the stars on a clear night are quite wonderful. One can walk over the bridge to Lancaster where you will find a few shops, restaurants and Henderson’s grocery store (2 minute drive). There is space for one car directly beside the cottage. Arrangements for a trailer and boat would have to be made with me in advance. There are times that I will be available to check in my guests but for the most part a key with be left in a secure lock box and the code will be forwarded to you in advance. I will always be available to my guests by text or phone. Text is preferred and more reliable. Charming and quaint, South Lancaster is the oldest Empire Loyalist Settlement in Ontario with several Craftsman-style homes dating as far back as the 1700s. We even have our own historic cemetery right in the middle of the village. We are conveniently located 1 hour West of Montreal, 1 hr 20 min. from Ottawa and 25 min. East of Cornwall. We are an easy cycle from Charlottenburgh and Glengarry Parks where you will find lovely sand beaches for swimming and picnicking. A short day trip or cycling adventure will bring you to quaint country villages such as Williamstown, Martintown and Saint Andrews West. As well, Cooper’s Marsh and Summerstown hiking trails are all within a 10-20 minute drive. Rainy days? We’ve got you covered. Snuggle in and watch a movie from our DVD collection or wifi for streaming your own subscriptions is available to our guests. A day trip to lovely Saint Anne-De Bellevue, Oka, Hudson or Montreal are also great options on a rainy day. We serve up humble pie here but we are very clean and you have everything you require for a very comfortable, relaxing unique South LA 1950s -style vacay! The Village is a lovely stroll to the public wharf where you can sit and take in the views of the Adirondacks or the night stars. It is an easy walk just over the bridge to the Village of Lancaster or a 2 minute drive, where you will find a few shops and restaurants and Hendersons, the Village grocery store which is well stocked (closed Sundays). There are great cycling routes along our country roads and along the Saint Lawrence River. Please see the map of Glengarry Routes available at the cottage. There is parking for one car in the driveway and there is on street parking if required. This quirky, tiny home is over 70 years old and it is a work in progress but it is very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you need for a very comfortable stay. It is a great area for biking, birding, hiking, cross country skiing , snow shoeing, and short day trips!
